Is Computer Engineering a meme degree?

Is Computer Engineering a meme degree?

No, unless you go to a meme school, but then all degrees would be memes. CE is vastly superior to CS degree. I'm about to get my PhD in ECE. What you wanna know?

no, it's one of the few degrees worth pursuing. the others being EE, CS and math. everything else is waste of life niche tier.

W-who is that sheyn lokh?
I'm tired of these shiksas, I want a good eydishe froy.

You need to have the PHENOTYPE to attract the ashkenazi ladies

But I'm a Jew!
A European Jew!
Jew just gotta lemme at their lox and yummy beygls.

If you don't have the phenotype, you're stuck with shiksas I'm afraid.

But I have the PHENOTYPE!

Not all Ashkenazis possess the phenotype, it's OK, that's just how the world is.

B-but I possess it!

Ed doesn't have the jewish face, only a big forehead and not even a stereotypical sloping jew forehead. Ed is probably more goy then semetic.

It's legit. It's more legit if you dual in CE and CS.

Lrn2meme fgt pls

Pretty much any engineering/math degree is worth it desu

Far from it! In my experience, CE grads tend to be better programmers than CS grads.
In industry, at least.

wh-wh-what about aerospace engineering user

damn who's the girl?

Is finance an employable degree? I don't care about making $100k+ a year or being respected, just want to live comfortably on $50-60k and I'm too dumb for other degrees.

how do I solve this

Factor the polynomial and apply the substitution u = x - 1.

L'Hospital's rule

observe if you substitute 1 for x you get 0/0
this means you can apply l'hopital's rule

I got a PhD too if you catch my drift

this

CE

>aero engineering
Good luck getting a job

CS/SE

CE is not a meme degree, and CS is not a meme degree either

It depends on the person. If your future is determined by your degree you didn't do it right. You need to study outside of class also

CE is CS with less algorithms and data structures, and more electrical engineering. It focuses on low level programming like verilog, assembly, and C

CS is CE with more algorithms and data structures, and less electrical engineering. It tends to focus on an even mix of low and high level programming like assembly, C, C++, and Java

CE may have a higher average salary but that's because CE majors tend to go into low level programming jobs on high performance servers and things such as this

But you can do that in CS as well, this is what I did and I make well over $160k/yr my first year out of college at my first job ever in my life because I focused on assembly, C, and computer architecture in my electives more, taking embedded systems courses and things like this

tl;dr do what YOU prefer, not what ANYONE tells you to do, because CS and CE are basically two similar paths that diverge a bit more in Junior and Senior year

If you like low level programming like drivers, C, bit manipulation, templates, then either do CE or do CS and take a lot of CE electives (I did this and I love it)

If you prefer high level programming like Java and SQL, and this is a perfectly okay choice too, then do CS and focus on that

Do what you want user

NEITHER are meme degrees, and if you are good you will make BANK

Do NOT fall for the Veeky Forums meme that CS is a meme, it is NOT a meme.

Everything other than pure mathematics is a fucking meme. Your education is useless unless you achieve enlightenment along the way. Only pure mathematics can provide you such an avenue.

>implying you need to do anything more than publicly masturbate and live in a ceramic pot to gain enlightenment

You really need a passion for hardware if you want to go into CE. If you think of hardware and optimizations you make to account for such hardware as necessary evils in getting your program running then just go into CS. If you really want to know how the hardware works and executes your instructions, (even if such knowledge will not make you a better programmer or design better systems) then go into CE.

I will say that CE students have the advantage to be as good as CS students in software and much better in hardware, but you will need to do a lot of studying on your own. Think of all the time needed to gain a deep understanding of software and systems. That's a CS degree (hopefully). Now add all the time needed to understand the hardware.

If you think you have the 'tism required, then go into CE, study CS concepts on your own time, and come out of school better than most others.

>Mathematics
>Enlightenment
Kek

Mathematics is but a fraction of the true path to enlightenment. Philosophy is the true path, Especially pragmatic philosophy (not that guay "what if" virgin shit, but the chad "This is how it is" shit.)

is correct in this scenario. That fucker masturbated in public and lived in a clay pot, and he was wise. not because he sat in a little corner all day being autistic about numbers or the meaning of life, but because he looked for answers, found answers, and applied them.

This is but one of the reasons why practical physics (informally known as engineering) is and shall always be far superior to virgin mathematical proofs and axioms.

Get the fuck out my light, brah.

Do you not best discover the intricacies of number theory whilst fiddling yourself in public? The two are irrevocably intertwined. I scratch my proofs onto my residential ceramic pot with the semen my number theory provides.

>much growth rates
newsflash: you only need one fucking job. also most of those CS/SE jobs are codemonkey shit and the number of people qualified for them is way higher

itt: filthy utilitarians. computer science and engineering are the whores of contemporary academia. everyone wants to do them for cheap and you get aids once you get to san francisco.

>If you think you have the 'tism required, then go into CE, study CS concepts on your own time, and come out of school better than most others.
The second part is most important

If you go into CE (which has a lighter load of data structures and algorithms) and you fail to study data structures and algorithms outside of classes, you will NOT pass your programming interviews, and they won't give a fuck about your in-depth knowledge of special adder implementation techniques and minimum circuit size calculations and shit because the interviews know NOTHING about this

Don't get into CE for pure autism reasons and expect that just because you're "smarter" than plain CS people means you will get a better job, because if that was the case physics majors would be making more than us all (and some are) but they aren't.

THIS is why I suggest, for optimal money and enjoyment, to do a CS degree and take CE electives on the side for fun, so you can focus on data structures and algorithms, which is where the money is at, and a firm solid understanding of computer architecture, which is also where the money is at - but the money is not in deep EE stuff when it comes to software engineering jobs

yeah but why would someone get a CE degree and then interview for shitty codemonkey software "engineering" jobs?

user you're wrong okay

My boss literally cannot find enough qualified people to hire. We work on high performance low latency machine-learning-as-a-service servers.

Only the brainlet jobs are full of code monkeys

ECE/EECS is the best Engineering.

ECE master both EE (Hardware) & CS (Software). From AI to Robots.

Math & Physics are for Genius. ECE is the 2nd degree with most Physics. 3rd with most Math.

CS has more Jobs, but EE specialists can take CS jobs too.

>tfw ECE glorious mustard race

user I'm not talking about "software engineering jobs"

If you want to go work on actual computer hardware at Intel or Samsung then by all means be my guest, but this pays SIGNIFICANTLY less than getting a job at software companies working on high performance computing systems where they simply require knowledge of the hardware for the purposes of software optimization, as opposed to actually designing new hardware yourself

Do whatever you want, but the money is in software, specifically working on servers hosting ML services, and in trading firms where they require low latency processing and trade execution

cool anecdote

ECE master race reporting

i agree that there is probably more money in the software "engineering" jobs nobody takes CE if they just want money cause they are aware of this fact already. also not all CE jobs are for intel/samsung. i'm going into embedded systems for aerospace

>trading firms
id rather not sell my soul to Veeky Forums scum

>id rather not sell my soul to Veeky Forums scum
They are scum, but they give you a great cut and you work on cool systems

Also, Veeky Forums scum have the most extravagant company outings at fancy restaurants and casinos with $400 bottles of wine, at least when I worked at one for a short period. It's fun user

yeah i figured as much. you obviously get something in return for your soul.

>cool systems
that shit aint cool when you can work on spacecraft

Anyway I completely share your overall sentiment

I wish we lived in a Star Trek utopia where we could pursue purely intellectual life paths without being held back by the requirement for worldly sustenance and money.

Give me a replicator and holodeck time that's all I need, I would love to get into academics or something instead of working for some corporation helping them make more money

you can still make a great living, you just won't be making super bank

btw, govt labs can give you the best of both worlds, especially if you get into a prestigious DOE national lab

>not being in a niche field
Have fun being a throwaway worker ant.

but i am in a niche field
