Is it possible to make mosquitoes go extinct?

Is it possible to make mosquitoes go extinct?

flood the atmosphere with c02 and other greenhouse gasses

nuclear winter

Brazil is trying it with genetic fuckery.

Isn't making some kinds to extinct is horribly bad? Like the butterfly or domino effect?

It is but can be prevented by the genetic fuckery brazil is up to.
You need something to replace it in the food-chain which is hard to pull off judging by how complicated certain chains are but far from impossible.
Many ecosystems manage to re-stabilize themselves with formerly unnatural fauna.
A good example for this is the jungles that got replanted by hippies in the 70ies.
They have certain rodents previously unseen in that habitat which are able to feed predators which normally prey on other stuff without any major changes in the ecosystem.

yeah, just squish them all

It has been argued that mosquitoes actually have little beneficial effect on the ecosystem that couldn't be replaced by other insects filling in the void left by their absence. No species that I am aware of preys primarily on mosquitoes.

Okay, but if mosquitoes suddenly became non-blood sucking creatures, what are they going to eat instead? And how da genetic fuckery will influence the hole species? If you have an source, share it pls.

Oh, well, why do they even exist?

No one suggests mosquitoes could be altered not to drink blood, genetic modification is suggested as a means to destroy their ability to be vectors of disease. Mosquitoes are the deadliest animal to humans.

So, sorry, you're still going to get bitten and itchy, but you won't get diseases. That's the goal, anyway.

One of the proposed modifications alter mosquitoes so that they neutralize the spread of infectious agents, but otherwise leave mosquito behavior unaltered.

Could you clarify? A species does. It need to be essential in an ecosystem for it to be evolutionarily successful, if that's what you're asking. Many species (think parasites) serve no function in the health of an ecosystem but are merely competitive enough to go unnoticed to their hosts.

Oh, thnx. I was stupidly blind about that one.

Does not**

Aha. That was actually the question. Thnx!

you need to think what is going to fill the void for whatever species of mosquito that is going extinct, its role in trophic interactions , as a key fliterfeeder for pelagic algae and thus as a base macro heterotroph for pelagic trophic networks and Everything connected, they convert primary productivity in a usable energy for macropredators in aquatic ecosystems and as adults this transfers to the terrestrial world feeding all kinds of predators. Biodiversity loss especially for such central vector has terrible and destabilizing consequences.
any attempt to make mosquitoes extinct is absurd, use biological controls to turn mosquitoes into food instead, and dump out standing water

No we have no right to meddle with Mother Nature's harmony.

DDT caused enough damage as it is and we must never allow this to happen ever again.

Anything's possible

Dragonflies eat mosquitoes
Only a couple species of mosquito are harmful to humans and there's like a fuckload of different types of mosquitoes so we just need to extinct those species and it's all good

We only need 2 species to sustain a quality ecosystem; cows and bees.
Cows defecate and produce fertilizer/meat
Bees pollinate

Haha

Yeah this is the truth. You won't hurt the food chain at all which sucks they still exist
