The benefits don't come from refraining from that specific activity, but from the discipline necessary to do so.

There's plenty of self reports about hair growing back, more energy levels, less brain fog.

I'm sure the self reporting makes enough case for real research.

Christian guiltism causes stress, so it's possible that learning to overcome your sexual desires is a cause for overcoming that stress, as stress can cause those symptoms.

nofap seems to be something more than a placebo effect.

Is there any real research on nofap?

My contact with it is as an /x/ topic relating to spirituality, so my guess is that there isn't any yet. But you can be the first. Just remember to treat it like a science and above all record your observations.

there's plenty of youtube testimonials about it having a real effect.

If anything bigger levels of T should do something.

the only physical change is choline concentration in the body, and that won't do shit unless you're a fetus fapping in the womb 50 times a day.

In my case, all of these "profits" were temporarily.
Those guys like to modificate their shitty nofap theories ad hoc.

1. When you watch porn, your brain releases large amounts of dopamine.

2. Dopamine is the brain's "motivation" chemical. Stimulant drugs such as caffeine, amphetamines, or cocaine artificially trigger dopamine receptors.

3. If your brain gets large amounts of any brain chemical, you will build tolerance to that chemical.

Thus, if you watch porn, you will gain tolerance to dopamine, and live out your life in a constant state similar to cocaine withdrawal.

You may or may not believe this. This is a science board, and I assume put some faith in experimentation. Conduct an experiment. Stop watching porn for two weeks, and see if you notice any changes in your life.

If I'm right, you'll gain some benefits in your life. If I'm wrong, at least you'll have proven it.

You cum buckets

There are none. Like many other beliefs, it's about blaming your own issues onto an external entity, in this case the evil porn industry. There's also a strong overlap in the usebase with the red pill movement, men going their own way and incels.

Define "porn"

Nice way of getting around linking a source man,
did you learn it from flat earthers?

>Define "porn"
pictures or videos that cause sexual arousal

>There's also a strong overlap in the usebase with the red pill movement, men going their own way and incels.

I guess it's not really surprising that the kind of people that you would expect to consume excessive amounts of porn would spend a lot of time talking about trying to watch less porn.

So it's okay if I imagine scenes similar to porn? Why?

Obviously anything can be unhealthy if it gets to the point of being an obsession, but yes, if you use your brain to generate these signals, it's a fair bit healthier and easier for your metabolism to manage than having external sources triggering your hormones all the time.

it's ok.
Hardcore pornography is a very strong stimulant. There's only so much your own imagination can do to get you off the same way porn does. Otherwise, businesses like internet porn, camgirls and such wouldn't be profitable at all if everyone is just imagining shit.

So it's somehow OK if I imagine the same scene instead of watching it?
Another thing that I've read is that it's OK to have sex. Wouldn't that lead to the creation of more red-pilled retards who are desperate to fuck anything? This whole thing is basically an anti-masturbation movement that uses very similar arguments to the ones used 100 to 200 years before, which could never be empirically confirmed
The reason for the porn addiction isn't the porn, it's the other problems the person has, which won't simply be solved by abstinence from porn.

So you have shit imagination?

>So it's okay if I imagine scenes similar to porn? Why?

That's a good point.

I think I get where you are going: If things that release dopamine are bad, then why is porn bad, when damn near anything that feels good at all releases dopamine. Why did I single out porn?

So, I'm sure that sexual fantasies release some dopamine, and maybe fantasizing about sex is kind of bad for you.

But answer this question: Which do you find more pleasurable? Thinking about sex, or watching porn? If you're jerking off, which one of the two will make you cum faster?

For me at least, the answer is porn. Porn feels more pleasurable. It causes the brain to release waaaay more dopamine.

And the more important point is that I've experimented. I've stopped porn, and started again, and stopped, and started again. Every time I started again, it was like I suddenly acquired ADD. Forget about all these hypothetical lines of reasoning; if the experiment tells me what _is_ true, that trumps all hypotheses telling me what _should_be true. Some other people have experimented also, and come to the same conclusion.

I'd also like to point out that everyone is different, and everyone might not have my same experience. I have some psychological tendencies that I think made my porn habit more harmful for me than it is for most people. That's why I encourage you to experiment for yourself.

Did I answer your question?

>imagine the same scene instead of watching it?
I can't say what's healthy for you without a lot more context, but yes, it's two entirely different modes of operation for your brain. One relies on the world for stimulus, while the other uses its innate memory capacity to project a scene that you have total control over. It's the difference between lying in a cage and bounding across the meadow.

>won't simply be solved by abstinence
Of course, just like prohibition. You can't control what people want to do and it's literally immoral and counterproductive to even try.

There are a number of factors feeding the nofap meme, and not all of them rely on 200 year old rhetoric. No matter what kind of ideal someone comes to you preaching, it can only ever be about self discipline or various forms of cages. There's no middle ground with some sort of "partial" responsibility; being partial just means you're not sure if it's safe to fully commit.

Abstaining from sexual activity recharges the penis chakra.
Your testicle fill with energy and when they're full the energy gets shoot up in a brain-gasm.

>innate memory capacity to project a scene
Holy shit dude. And this just came directly from your ass, never seen shit like this before.

...

>I can't say what's healthy for you without a lot more context
So adult of you to not judge what is healthy for him based on nothing. You would totally get a golden star if this was relevant at all to his question.

>One relies on the world for stimulus, while the other uses its innate memory capacity to project a scene that you have total control over. It's the difference between lying in a cage and bounding across the meadow.
Great opinion dude, so deep, some Jaden Smith level shit there. My opinion is deep too bro.

>There are a number of factors feeding the nofap meme, and not all of them rely on 200 year old rhetoric
What kind of "factors" are you even talking about. Why don't you give some examples instead of just empty opinions.

There is no substance in your post though. How can you argue.

>innate memory capacity
Amazing.
