Why does the right push the "you don't need college meme" so hard?
Yes, you can earn a decent (40-50k) salary with a apprenticeship or whatever, at the expense of working 50+ hours a week and your body giving out by age 45.
Clearly, happiness and fulfillment requires a college degree, and yet so many try to say it doesn't. Why?

the Right:
on the old end are jaded Boomers living in the mid 1980's, who don't want to hear that it's not still 1987.
on the young end are just Pol, 'fear the white genocide' meme

In all honesty our society requires a multitude of jobs to function. If these jobs didn't exist (aside from being automated out of existence) than society would crumble.
I want to believe that anyone who applied themselves and tried hard enough could succeed in stem, some might need to try or work harder than others but it's possible. I also understand that my previous statement is wrong. Some people will never be capable of learning and working in stem fields. There are allot of people who can't make it in stem and the problem is that these people will then pursue academic degrees in bullshit that don't actually qualify them for a job.
These people would be better off learning a trade that they enjoy instead of being lied to about an arts degree or social "science" degree that will qualify them to make my coffee.
If anything academia needs to be forced out of the capitalistic munge that it's become and move into an elitist model that only produces academic programs that are useful to society.
University sports should be gone, this heavy arts focus should be gone. High standards with STEM as a focus should be the purpose of college and universities not a "hey kid go have a life experience and find yourself while getting your business degree".
Fuck that.
Those that can't make the STEM should be going to other schools to learn some sort of trade so that they can be a useful tool to society.

Because high finance has changed college into a debt-extraction scheme. Their needs to be at least one opposing voice to the "everybody needs a college degree" crowd. Of course, not everyone needs a college degree. Some people are better off in trade fields.
