Actually this presidency is distinctly un-Orwellian, in that all of Trump's faults and statements are openly criticized. The media will bring to light any false statements he makes. It's far more unsettling when the media is fully supportive of the president like in the Obama years.

It's annoying how the phrase "alternative facts" was used to explain why this presidency resembles 1984. A phrase like "alternative information", which means basically the same thing, sounds far more innocuous. It was a shitty choice of words but it's not like they were trying to imply that a falsehood equals a fact.
