I think people are both foreign to the own culture they are born from, and incapable to focus their attention on a simple task. I think that they don't read because they cannot read, that to concentrate on a text longer than a paragraph is unbearable. I think that we now see manchildren because we can support manchildren. Before videogames, before the money to care for NEETs, you wouldn't be able to be a manchild even if you wanted to. Sometimes in the past rich people got way too into things like poems and fairytales, and I guess that's the same impulse.

Yes, in sports you use your actual body to win. In games there is a layer of abstraction, where you move objects on a determined field, but the movements of your body usually aren't part of the game. In video games the line is blurred. I just think it's silly to emphasize the physical and mental struggle, when games are devoid of the physical aspect and in sports the degree to which the mental aspect matters varies and it could be argued does not reach the level of top level ASSFAGGOTS play (which would lack the strength/endurance aspect of most sports).

Look the point is that the medium they enjoy doesn't matter, their approach does. Well-adjusted and healthy people can enjoy anime, literature, reality tv, televised sports, whatever. You can also be an obsessive manchild about any of those things.

I can't speak to physical sports but imo there is a very significant difference between the pace of chess and any mainstream competitive video game.

For example even a bad player in call of duty will probably get one kill for every 2 deaths and have fun running around shooting things nonstop. There is always stuff going on on screen and sounds bombarding your senses as well. The experience is architected to give you instant gratification all the time, even if you're doing poorly. In chess you can easily spend an hour getting choked out of a game because you made one mistake, all the while you're just sitting there looking at a 64 square board in silence. Video games often replace intellectual challenge for physical ability. Obviously decision making matters to a degree but it's less complicated and the amount of variance in possible decisions is pretty limited.

Using cod may be a strawman but even in potentially more oppressive games like dota there's constant input, from something as simple as the little sound that plays every time you get last hits to the dynamic music that responds to events going on in the game to the fact that even someone who's fallen far behind can make often still make a difference and at least get a way with a kill or whatever by just using their abilities in fights. Even in dota, which I'd consider to be one of the most complicated mainstream game, has a relatively simple decision matrix at any given time and at anything but the highest level people are able to fall back to defaults as far as decisions to fight/run, item builds etc without much consequence.
