He always dressed it up in fairly moderate terms; "its not like I'm expecting a new communist revolution haha" and "maybe it will force the democratic party to reorganize itself" and "maybe something good will happen" and "Clinton is the status quo and that is even worse than a disruptive event" type stuff.

Maybe true to a degree. But he occasionally praises a project here or there, he is just usually so pessimistic about everything that it seems like he believes nothing can be done without a major change (which would have to be a crisis of some sort, if no positive positive projects will or can work). But like, he praised Sanders plenty. He likes Varoufakis, he likes Wikileaks.

The odd thing about Zizek is, one easily end up seeing him either as a rather moderate socialist or a crazy accelerationist. Or a fascist.

i don't even get this. why is it weird to be at a dump, what is wrong with ecology. i think he is giving his topic the wrong name ( he should have called it natural theology) but ecology isn't really a religion, human life will suffer if we don't make some effort to preserve our environment. i don't even understand why he is the opposed to the idea of a natural theology or love of the natural, doesn't he defend things like that i.e. his work preserving the christian tradition. i thought his position was that he didn't believe that it was true but it was useful. also at 6:39 in he contradicts himself he started with the point that we move things away from our circle and then it goes to nature and we viscerally associate this but later he denies that is the case.

1. he considers ecological catastrophes one of the biggest, if not the biggest, threats. He is not against preserving the environment and so on
2. He often calls ecology a "new opium for the masses" which is a clever way to put it.

He does not mean actual radical change that would actually save the environment (and us in the process). He is against pseudo-activity and personal responsibility in the sense that they can prevent the real change from coming; "I already recycle my this or that, I don't need to do any more, I don't need to advocate for a political change" kind of thinking. The same logic as when he opposes charity: it does not actually cure the disease, may even prolong it.

There's practically no revolutionary leftism left in the western countries currently. Communism, as things currently stand, is no danger to anyone here. No matter what a thinker says, he can be treated as a clown or interesting oddity; a liberal right--winger can read Zizek and take from there what he wants.

Badiou is even more open about his love for revolutions than Zizek, proclaiming himself a Maoist, praising the cultural revolution, etc: but there's no problem since there's currently no such revolutionary movement to tie him to.

If there WAS a revolutionary left, Zizek might be a persona non grata, even if he didn't really change his overall message.
