I thought their ODEs book was highly rated. What would be a better alternative?
It is. I have the one in the OP, it's fantastic. Just another sci contrarian.
it's for dummies. hirsh & smale is better

But I am a dummy
OP is baiting.
You get what you pay for, there's a reason those books are dirt cheap
Most Dover books are just old Soviet math books translated and republished.
How about a little justification?
Im not
the dover books have outdated or bloated notations. they have no personality to them yet have far too much text. ill admit the ode one is decent since it reads more like an actual text with practice problems. but the other ones have better alternatives
fun fact landau was a literal soviet scientist
nothing wrong with the fourier series one
These are all great.
Book publishers don't write books. Just because you've read a few bland ones doesn't mean they all are.
best
how ? i thought landau's books were amazing, i was going to read some what makes them so bad for you?

too dry to be textbooks, too detailed to be reference books. they arent for learning. more for if you enjoy reading technical books as a hobby
This is probably more to do with the difference between weak-minded modern westerners and old soviets. Relativity.
