Is psychiatry a meme?

Is psychiatry a meme?

The APA makes assertions without proving any foundation reasoning for the DSM or conceptual qualifications.

Is it possible they're wrong and the population are just too wrapped up in the narrative that people just can't admit that it could all be bullshit explanations and wrongly sorted beliefs?

respectively more or less, and very much yes
not like psychiatry doesn't ever work, but it's dangerous and "abstract" af even if you get yourself a competent psychiatrist
like medicine, but to the 10th power

What's certain is that psychiatry is far closer to the truth than anyone who doesn't "believe" in psychiatry. It's humanity's best method for treating the mind until technology and processing power allow for diagnostics and treatment to deal with the brain directly. No one says it's entirely scientific, and it can't be for extremely obvious reasons.

Also, it seems like you're trying to pass off that article (and the apparent contradictions between its title and content) as being an official position of the psychiatric community, when actually it's a Huffington Post article written by a journalist.

That's a lot of asserting.

What is your empirical evidence?

This. Pretty reasonable.

Making statements like psychological science is all made up is about as insightful as a high school student saying quantum physics isn't real and a waste of time.

psychiatry is a solution to the problem of "deviant" and "unproductive" citizens. If you've ever known anyone who has been officially diagnosed, you should rightly fear psychiatrists.

They'll turn you into a fat drooling moron, totally dependent on the state for everything, and completely content without any knowledge of the decades they have robbed you of.

You'll become some doctor's pet for the remainder of your dramatically shortened lifespan.

and if you ever go off your meds for whatever reason you'll rapidly become quite hysterical and violent.

Go back to your containment board you pathetic fear-mongering halfwit

Its true though.

I've seen people go completely mental from prozac withdrawal, and even while they're on it they seem withdrawn/kind of dead inside. And girls get fat butter thighs from it too. But they're think they're happy at least so there's that.

Psychiatrists find the people who are struggling, like lions stalking a wounded buffalo, and effectively put them out of their misery (end their suffering).

Psychiatry is a branch of medicine, not a science, it's purpose is not to "prove" anything, it's to develop effective treatments.
>HURR the CDC just asserts that disease is caused by germs, they never offer PROOF!

No
Just because our brain mechanisms are ridiculously complicated and very hard to study and understand doesn't mean psychiatry is a meme

You're supposed to tell your psychiatrist you want to go off Prozac and he tells you how to wean off of it. You don't just stop taking it, everyone knows that.

ya whatever... you're just the pitiful drooling wretched pet of some ruthless psychiatrist, caught in some form of stockholm syndrome, blissfully unaware of any other way to live.

I don't see a psychiatrist, but thanks for the very insightful comments.

No, it isn't.

yes, it is possible that they are wrong, that's why the use the "may" as with most sciences that involve humans. Being wrong is part of the process to generate knowledge.

No problem. Thanks for your sarcastic passive aggression.

Have you considered therapy?

So what have you been diagnosed with?

psychiatry is a con job to drug the masses into submission while making a quick shekel in the process

I don't think psychiatry is a joke but I certainly noticed the newest DSM became a lot more relativist. It redefined a shit ton of stuff. A lot of physicians noticed the trend as well, a lot of stuff that we didn't treat for are now psychiatric conditions according to the new DSM. People think we're creating our own problems so that we can solve them, especially when it comes to leftist stuff like gender dysphoria.

Depression is definitely not a meme. However, don't read these "statements" the association makes, read the actual studies mentioned, I'm sure they will be of far higher quality.

Yes. It is literally a meme science and should be renamed or disbanded.
