The application of strict scrutiny is a false dichotomy of the supreme court's ability to distinguish between fundamental rights and the general needs of the masses.

Avoid the clicketty clack of modern life, it's dull, reverveless, overproduced. Instead try to kick it up a notch, push the dial pass 11.

The paleo diet is the original, most nutritionally adequate diet for modern man.

Be yourself.

The next real literary “rebels” in this country might well emerge as some weird bunch of anti-rebels, born oglers who dare somehow to back away from ironic watching, who have the childish gall actually to endorse and instantiate single-entendre principles. Who treat of plain old untrendy human troubles and emotions in U.S. life with reverence and conviction. Who eschew self-consciousness and hip fatigue. These anti-rebels would be outdated, of course, before they even started. Dead on the page. Too sincere. Clearly repressed. Backward, quaint, naive, anachronistic. Maybe that’ll be the point. Maybe that’s why they’ll be the next real rebels. Real rebels, as far as I can see, risk disapproval. The old postmodern insurgents risked the gasp and squeal: shock, disgust, outrage, censorship, accusations of socialism, anarchism, nihilism. Today’s risks are different. The new rebels might be artists willing to risk the yawn, the rolled eyes, the cool smile, the nudged ribs, the parody of gifted ironists, the “Oh how banal”. To risk accusations of sentimentality, melodrama. Of overcredulity. Of softness. Of willingness to be suckered by a world of lurkers and starers who fear gaze and ridicule above imprisonment without law. Who knows.

Do you know why the sun sets? So it can rise again.

What is your true self? How do you know when you are being yourself? What is this "self" that exists apart from social ties, conditioning, and principles of interaction?

I don't know that I'd use the term "true self". Think of it more as be YOUR self. It generally centers around giving a shit about yourself. You'll know when you're being yourself. Society is a part of your self, it's how you choose to function within it. If you're unaware of the demands of society then it's tricky of course.

So give a shit about yourself I can get right behind. But how will I know when I'm being myself? How do you know you are choosing your choices within society?
>be the self you were conditioned to be in your formative years, not the self you were conditioned to be in your conscious years.

xenosystems.net/kek/

this is actually the winner

You'll know.
Social conditioning teaches you the rules, if you want to be yourself you have to first know what's stupid and what's important. From there, it gets a lot easier.
People who hate "be yourself" tend to forget that nobody exists in a vacuum.

>People who hate "be yourself" tend to forget that nobody exists in a vacuum.
I am arguing against be yourself BECAUSE no one exists in a vacuum, there IS no separate self. Are you trolling?

No. People hate be yourself because they think being themselves means being their isolated selves and when they realize that doesn't work, completely conforming to society.

We are the universe becoming cognizant of itself.

“Fiat justicia ruat coelum. Let justice be done, though the heavens fall. Normally this phrase is cited in a positive sense, such as in reference to Lord Mansfield’s 1772 decision in Somersett’s Case: No matter what harms may befall the English economy or society by abolishing slavery, justice demands that it be done.
“But there is a negative sense to the maxim as well. Carrying out a sentence legally arrived at, but morally repugnant, exposes the fact that our system of justice contains the seeds of its own destruction. When we elevate the rule of law above all other considerations, and pursue it as an end in itself rather than as an means to pursue justice in a larger, transcendent sense, we find ourselves upside down, doing evil to avoid stepping outside the system that calls it good.”

The idea is that "darkness" will teach you a lesson or cause self-improvement, leading to the "dawn".

If you mean that nobody exists in a vacuum yea I just think that as paradoxical as it may sound, you are only really ever allowed to be yourself around other people, without any reference point you don't really know yourself and you can float on to whatever delusion of self-identity you can conjure up.

The caveat is that while you require society to be yourself, society generally also tries to stop you from being yourself. Some people internalize societal beliefs and they become their own obstruction too. So it's a battle and one that's won with a mix of intelligence, awareness and caring about yourself.

I see it as you can either be the blank slate that society puts its colors on or society can be the blank slate that you put your colors on and you can't be the blank slate that you put your colors on.

That sounds like somthing a gay person would say
