Discrete Music
Substrata
Depends on the book. I do most of my reading without any music.
You have ambient noise all around you anyway.
If you need music to block out noise, use earplugs instead.

this is the only thing that i listen to desu
>Substrata
How can you concentrate on reading with this album in your ears? I know I can't, it's not ambient enough. Pure ambient albums are coherent and fairly consistent in terms of sound and mood, in my opinion.
Try Stalker by Robert Rich & B. Lustmord. Especially for anything fitting that mood like Lem's Solaris.
Wew. Do you often recommend this album? Because the previous post was the first time I even thought about this album in years for some reason.
Lustmord
Marconi Union
Brian Eno/Harold Budd
2814
Raison d'etre
Oystein Sevag/Lakki Patey - Visual
Rainy Mood
I only listen to NIGHTCORE
I usually listen to music that matches the genre of what I'm reading. I'm reading Blood Meridian at the moment, so have a playlist Ennio Morricone Western movie themes.
I have a white noise machine I play. Sometimes I set it on rain , waves or waterfall but usually just white noise on full volume
I want to tickle her little socked feet
Search youtube for "reading music". Tons of good stuff for reading, studying and memory comes up.

SHUT UP AND ENJOY THE NIGHTCORE▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
with ambient noise I agree, I don't need it, but if I am around people talking, I much rather listen to some ambient music
Nurse with Wound: Soliloquy for Lilith
for Horror, " Thomas Ligotti and Current 93's atmospheric collaborations.

>listening to music while reading
Enjoy being a brainlet for life.
This thread is probably the best proof that 90% of the people on Veeky Forums are not even serious readers.
So you're not a serious reader, user? What's wrong with you?
>listening to music while reading
>tainting the impressions the book makes on your emotions, imagination and intellect by applying a filter
how disgusting
Brian Eno
2814
HKE
William Basinksi
toe
Leandro Fresco
Godspeed You! Black Emperor
GAS
Bohren and Der Club of Gore
HKE and Godspeed are probably the loudest out of the ambient, but toe are essentially a math rock band, but at a low volume I find it extremely relaxing
24/H LOFI HIP HOP STUDY SESSION STUDY//RELAX//CHILL HOP WIFI LOFI

Fuckin love rain temple my dude

which one—the german guy or the one who did "discovery"?
>toe
good taste my man, but definitely not for the background.
>bohren und der club of gore
see also: the killimanjaro darkjazz ensemble, dale cooper quartet and the dictaphones.
German one, I'm thinking about buying that big box set of his
Thanks for the recs on Bohren, I love them so I'm glad to have some similar artists to listen to.

Ben Lukas Boysen/Hecq
William Basinski's Disintegration Loops (all four releases)
Brian Eno's Music for Airports
Carbon Based Lifeforms' Twentythree
Merzbow's Merzbient
Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works Vol. 2
Solar Fields' Altered - Second Movements
I also find minimalist composers like Nils Frahm, Max Richter, Steven Reich, Philip Glass and Michael Nyman also work really well to help me focus while reading and studying. Sunn O))) and early Earth albums are also OK - oppressive and slow, heavy sounding but nothing too distracting.
I have annoying neighbors so I am thinking of buying some noise-cancelling headphones. Any recommendations?
These sorts of things.
Anything by John Frusciante.
True words.
Just use earplugs to block out the undesireable noise. It's one thing to play ambient music in the background through speakers, but actually streaming music directly into your ears while reading just seems like a pointless distraction.
Music is best listened to with full attention. Having music in the background for activities requiring concentration is plebeian, symptomatic of a short attention span and fidgeting.
Probably best off asking people on /mu/. I own a pair of Sennheiser though, they're a reliable brand.
How has no one mentioned Loscil
muh nigga
I've listened to all his solo stuff
This. Look familiar?
you ass, your pic related was the second thing i recommended []
in my personal opinion, if even ambient music doesn't hold your attention enough for you to read you have poor musical comprehension, and if you can't read without music you have poor focus.
Anyone have any decent recommendations for molded ear plugs? I really hate the shitty squishy disposable ear plugs, but I recently moved to a fairly loud area and it's really difficult to read because of all the noise.
>Merzbow's Merzbient
What in the fuck have I downloaded
People already mentioned most of what I like, but I would like to add sleep research facility, specially the deep frieze album.

William Basinski's Watersounds II is also a personal favourite:

If the ambient music you are listening to distracts you it isn't very good ambient music now is it.
Are you also unable to read if it is raining friend?
>If the ambient music you are listening to distracts you it isn't very good ambient music now is it.
That is L I T E R A L L Y the opposite of what's true.
Truly the most retarded post i've seen all week.
Pretty good list - eno and basinksy, but that's just me
Usually listen to some classical or early Ben Frost if there is noise around me.
>Reading The Things They Carried
>It Ain't Me starts playing
Merzbow's 12 LP collection of janky dark ambient. It's pretty good actually if you like Merzbow. I listened to it a lot while I studied at college a few years ago.
John Zorn is my main man T B H senpai, love his christmas jazz album.

Only good answers below citation.
And for all the other faggots and pretenders: Why would you listen to music while reading? If you are reading you are supposed to apreciate the aesthetics of Literature, the emotions and thoughts a book can conceive on you. Music modifies your mood, you are manipulating the reading experience. Seriously, you people have no respect for anything, neither the mediums you say to enjoy. You disrespect both Music and Literature when you mix then like it doesn't mean a thing.
I want to fuck this cute animoo girl.

i listen to this on random settings to tickle my brain waves.

Seconding steve reich, music for 18 musicians is b a s e d.
Arvo part is great as well, especially tabula rasa
just put on one of those focus playlists on Apple Music, i like "Swift Concentration" and "Zone In" most of the time, but "Early Music: From Medieval to Renaissance" has some patrish vibes

Forgot this little gem. Unmissable.
Hi
Some of these hardly pass as ambient music. Listen to Mathias Grassow. His love music has drone elements and it can make you very introspective.
>Hardly passes as Ambient
>Recommends Drone

Ambient with Drone elements. Idiot. You're probably the guy that recommended GY!BE
