there are many interpretations of what the bible says but generally there is a prevalent concept that you can only follow GOD or SATAN, there is NO escape from the two this is a very well known idea across christianity, how can that not be authoritarian?

Religion is good for the masses. A universal morality is necessary for a well rounded society. Human nature is inherently evil, we need to be taught to do good. This is why children have to be taught to share their toys.

If you lack religious moral foundations, then you should read philosophy for moral understanding. What do you mean? The book itself has a lot more to it than religion anyway and you don't really need to read the bible first to understand it.

Just read those and take your time with them, they are both very enjoyable.
