Reading Demons by Dostoevsky

>Reading Demons by Dostoevsky.
>MFW all of The Bible references are going over my head.

Sounds like a pleb didn't Start with the Greeks.

>read Dosto, Lewis, Milton and all the other christfags without reading the Bible first
>completely miss the whole point
>read the Bible
>have 20 epiphanies at once
>die of insult and intracranial bleeding
Is this the most Veeky Forums suicide or what?

>Read The Bible
>Don't read any Christian lit
Am I a reverse pleb?

Alright niggers is the bible a good book? I think religion is evil and avoid it. But if the bible is good I'll read it.

>take a Bible
>divide the number of pages by 30
>read 1/30th of the book every day
>after one month you've read the entire Bible and can understand major references in most of the Western culture

>referencing bible
Only pseuds do this.

Bible is shit, read the Quran

Why do you think religion is evil?
Religion, from an evolutionary standpoint, is used to promote ideals throughout time and societies.
Without religion, would we have gotten this far? Is it even possible for us to evolve WITHOUT religion? What is the alternative?

Common sense desu senpai. Stop watching peterson.

>I think religion is evil and avoid it

He frequents a website called 'reddit'.

Quran is the worst religious book ever written. It's basically God shitposting about the fact you'll go to hell.

>Common sense
What did he mean by this?

you should just read it for its massive influence on the English language and literature written in that language

also some solid lit in there, like the Song of Songs and Ecclesiastes

Is evolutionary psychology a meme? How Peterson describes things kind of just make sense desu

>Reading Under The Volcano
>Every Bible reference is null and void
>Every Divine Comedy reference is wasted on my brainlet
>can only relate to the drunkard parts

Wew

>Reading through pre-Biblical apocrypha
>spend months trying to make sense of Gnostic cosmology
>havent even reached the Bible

but when im done with all this i will pseud the shit out of biblical discussion

Kys

Nice argument.

I'm not going to argue with a dude that watched the Joe Rogan experience lmao

*Tips*

Why is not believing in God fedora. Like suck a dick all you fucking losers and weirdos on Veeky Forums don't believe in God. Being religious is just a meme I guarantee none of you belive in God. Veeky Forums is where the rejects of society go and the rejects aren't fucking religious. Sick of this being religious meme. It's bullshit. None of you believe in God. That's so fucking stupid. It's like believing in the easter bunny. You don't need some fucking bible to tell you how to be a good person you need common sense. None of you are religious fuck yourselves

Boy do you have some growing up to do.

I was about to start under the volcano, should I at least to some research on the bible and Divine Comedy?

>common sense
>that thing stupid people compare to rocket science

>common sense is applied, unwritten, often vague and subjective rules that differ between cultures, let alone individuals within each culture
>rocket science can be broken down into easily understood components in specific fields, usually with an agreeable consensus from specialists across multiple fields

You're bitching on a sexy bamboo-eating panda photoshopping board about social miscreants not believing in a fictional character? Really?

different user.

the bible is mind control anyway

there is good writing in it, but reading it with this idea that it is completely true and fact is ludicrous, it is full of broken logic that only makes sense with the assumption that this was written to subjugate people. it should be enjoyed just as a mythological tale instead of believing it as absolutely true.
ultimately it is just a doomsday tale to infect the minds of people with shit authoritarian ideology.

>that only makes sense with the assumption that this was written to liberate people
ftfy

TOP ZOZZLE LADS CHOICE MEMES MY MY DO I LOVE IRONY

You seem to be knowledgeable of the good. Do most people have a sense for the good?

New Testament + Ecclesiastes is top tier. Old testament is required reading with some great moments. Either way, read it.

Oh and Job. So at the very least read Job, Ecclesiastes, Mark, and John. Start with those and then read Acts and Romans.

What do you mean the good? Why would someone want to do bad? Unless they are fucked in the head. As a human who doesn't partake in religion I feel it is my duty to make life better for everyone no matter how I can. Just try any way possible. I don't need a sky fairy to tell me that.

So how do you know it's your duty to make life for everyone better? And don't say common sense, what lead you to choose this duty.

t. Never read the Quran

Nothing at first but as I got older I noticed I didn't like people who made my life shitty and I noticed I liked people who were nice to me and made life better. So I realized I might as well pay it forward and that if I should return the favor and make life good for other people because people who made my life good made me feel good so why not do that for others. Pretty simple huh?

No need for a bible to tell me that lmao. People who rely on religion are weak minded haha

Do you know what the good is though?

Being a good person?

The subtext of this entire post is that you're angry that God doesn't want you to touch your willy. The image, the references to "authoritarian ideology" and "subjugating people," and the complete lack of any argument. Just get over yourself already.

That's one example, do you know what it is though?

Yeah being nice and not fucking people over. What stupid religious bullshit idea do you have in your brainwashed head. Please meme me. Tell me all about the meme that you don't belive in but think is funny to pretend to belive in anyway.

Well you seem to say you're a believer of the good, and participate in it. Yet you what you post is contradictory to what you say you practice, your duty, and so it seems to you do not have knowledge of the good. This would mean you're a sporadic in your goodness and do not completely participate in the form of the good and so you cannot be called a "good person".

Kys

NT is an enjoyable read. Think Hobbit + LotR.

OT provides backstory for NT. i.e. Silmarillion.

You don't believe in a sky fairy but you believe in Misology. But don't worry, you're not entirely bad or good. But you'll never know truth, so you're no different than a zealot.

Lmao OK Mr peterson

I can see why you could read that, but the image was just something I picked randomly from my folder that was somewhat related.

there are many interpretations of what the bible says but generally there is a prevalent concept that you can only follow GOD or SATAN, there is NO escape from the two this is a very well known idea across christianity, how can that not be authoritarian?

this is also seen in your post, the christian ideology says that God MUST exist and any one who questions or criticizes his existence must obviously really just hate God, sure it's a possibility that some dissenter
is really just a frustrated believer, but this is just the ideological programming protecting itself from being destroyed by critical thought. non-believers aren't allowed to not believe.

I don't have a problem with people who want to believe but I think as far we have come to this point we have a long way to go and things like the bible and christianity need to be discussed with earnest.

>Sheitan's trips

I did read the Quran. It was unpleasant overall.

Time to make a new Western Canon.

t. Anytus

>Read Shakespeare before reading the Bible
>in every other chapter is a line Shakespeare lifted straight out the Good Book
Holy fucking plagiarism

Note that you're conflating the question of God's existence with the question of a societal benefit from religion.

Kek.

You're projecting

Bible is a collection of books in different genres FYI.

>I think religion is evil and avoid it
No, don't read it. You won't appreciate it.

>but reading it with this idea that it is completely true and fact is ludicrous
Good thing no one does that.

>literally plebbit: the post

Religion is good for the masses. A universal morality is necessary for a well rounded society. Human nature is inherently evil, we need to be taught to do good. This is why children have to be taught to share their toys.

>People who rely on religion are weak minded haha.
This attitude is inherently petty, and clearly shows a lack of moral understanding. If you are so far above a religious person, why even bother to criticize them? If you lack religious moral foundations, then you should read philosophy for moral understanding. Your attitude indicates that you are lacking in both areas, as an educated person would be indifferent to how a person develops a moral foundation.

What do you mean? The book itself has a lot more to it than religion anyway and you don't really need to read the bible first to understand it.

Just read those and take your time with them, they are both very enjoyable.
