Why is this so awesome?

Why is this so awesome?

it's not

This is a meme right? I remember seeing it but I never got it

I never respected genre fiction (including Lord of the Rings) until I read the Silmarillion. I still dislike the fact that the book makes you feel like you're studying a history textbook, the complexity of Tolkien's constructed world is truly amazing.

"im a loser who thinks his respect is worth anything"

Classical inspiration

percy jackson has classical inspiration and its shit. do you even think before you speak?

Because if you get your head out of the single theme of literary pretension which has purveyed unhindered since the 30's, its a masterwork of culture that almost anyone familiar with a Nordic language can appreciate. Its not a literary achievement, or even a great narrative, but it is probably among the best pieces of fiction on technicality and form.

>a fucking aussie

Also, hollywood wouldn't let any 'inspiration' jackson might've had get in the way of the shekels. I loathe those flicks

Sorry, i had read peter instead of percy. My bad

I really enjoyed it, but should have just spent my time studying greek myth because those references constantly pop up in western lit and I have yet to find any use in knowing the difference between Calaquendi and ƚmanyar

Idk, but I loved it

typical poor reading comprehension fantasy reader

Thoughts on Life of Pi by Dostoevsky?

>Peter Jackson
>Aussie

Shouldn't you know that stuff anyway from living in a western culture? You do live in a western culture, right?

This, Children of Hurin is a great work though

brilliant analysis

robust rebuttal

peter jackson is kiwi and those films are based on books, the other poster was referring to those books

Because Tolkien is good enough to put an entire series' worth of plot, character development and lore into one 300-page book
