who else /surveying/ here? >brb tons of job growth >brb making easy financial gains because of low supply and high demand >get to be outside in nature >brb traveling to dank destinations and help build stuff >don't work on rainy days >get paid to be in a van and only work for a few hours >qt grills always ask if you're taking a picture of them >look like a wizard when you explain because nobody knows what you're doing >engineers jelly >scientists euphoric
name a more Chad STEM profession than surveying.. I'll wait..
the fist 4 are literal virgin tier EE is pretty based tho and the last one is just a meme
Alexander Gutierrez
the last one was a meme, but the first 5 were sincere. Try this one on for size: >Logician
Josiah Roberts
>get to be outside in nature >Get to share in the profit made from it's destruction If I saw a land surveyor around and nobody else I would bully them and then shit in my hand and throw it at them.

>offered a survey job by a railroad >good pay, great benefits >be away from gf months at a time >turn down job >3 months later gf says goodbye, leaves town >apply for railroad survey job >Sorry, position is filled, thank you for applying mfw
I was just looking at a surveying job ("environmental technician") in my area, but I'm not sure how to apply for it.
I started a geology degree, but I didn't finish it. How much will that hurt me? The job doesn't have any degree requirements listed, but it does list "archeology, anthropology or GIS background" as a plus.
Am I screwed, or do I stand a chance?

>Jelous office cuck I make my money on a farm and am an ecologist by vocation, I'm very skilled at taxonomy, biodiversty science and community and systems ecology, I'm getting good at theory and landscapes. Needless to say I spend a lot of time outside. I will make more money this year on ginseng, shiners and watermelons than any land surveyor ever will.
Zachary Fisher
nah sometimes you don't even need a B.S., just your state licenses. It's STEM because it's like Civil Engineering
Nah dude, you should be good just be honest with how much you know about geology and how it can apply to surveying
>on a farm Ok Cleetus, I'll justbe over here enjoying my six figure salary :^)
surveying is 1 degree removed from gis "engineer" which is one degree removed from your average google earth user
Juan Fisher
>hehe I don't understand how map making works so I'll reduce it to "google maps", that'll show him unironically you
Juan Sullivan
Do land surveyors account for the earth's curvature?
Alexander Powell
depends on the size of the project. for example, if you're just doing someone's backyard or trying to rebuild an avenue, it's still forgivable
but once you're building highways or long bridges, such as the San Francisco bridge, you must take the Earth's curvature into consideration
John Stewart
Have you built a long bridge?
Nathan Smith
not yet user, the company I work for does smaller projects such as schools, business lots, height certificate surveys, property boundarys, etc. though theoretically any surveyor can help build a bridge, mostly the state or city surveyors/municipalities take care of that, as they're the ones with that sort of budget
Thomas Baker
I'd fucking shoot you for slinging literal shit at me unprovoked.
