Well Gandalf is clearly a figure like Jesus or Socrates. He's a nomad. He's constantly on the move, helping people, spreading wisdom. He survives on the charity of others, because he spends all his time helping the little folk.
Compared to Gandalf, Dumbledore is like Aristotle or the Pope. He's a more imperfect figure but also the head of a powerful, centralized institution which he is tasked to protect. He's on the side of power, the establishment.
As I've already wasted too much time thinking about this stupid shit, I'll let someone else finish this comparison

I'd say Dumbledore is a much more pragmatic figure, mainly due to the reasons you already mentioned. He is also flawed - some of his choices have easily be considered immoral. Add to that his troublesome youth and you get a fucked up cocktail. Despite his grace and good cheer, he spends his days in silent regret. Voldemort, the entire Potter family(especially Harry), etc. I'm honestly too dead tired to write something about Gandalf, but he is a much more positive figure.
