Woolf's novels are just as tedious and boring as Joyce can be, but without the penetrating understanding of human nature and the extravagant humor that Joyce offers. Her work is genteel.

I have enjoyed books from the Cadfael series by Ellis Peters,the Miles Vorkosigan series by Lois McMaster Bujold,and the Mary Russel Sherlock Holmes series by Laurie R King. And those are the aithors from the top of my head...
