Even if he were seeking help why did he choose her of all people? If this were a murder case where the kid was on trial for killing himself there would be demonstrable intent and I doubt very seriously any credible insanity defense. If you truly see no meaning, and lack any desire or will to live it is inevitable. I just finished reading them an hour ago. His texts with her served the same function as a suicide note does in many cases, to absolve the actor of his crime by whatever explanation or mollification; he did it more effectively however because in manipulating someone else to act as the motivator he is completely absolved of his crime without question.
