In Some prefer Nettles the protagonist, exhausted by his westernized lifestyle, returns to traditional Japanese aesthetic values. Tanizaki's erotic obsession is much more subdued in this work and a lot of the sensuality that marks his writing is spent on Japanese puppet theater. I agree that reading Naomi can be emotionally draining, she is a bit of a cunt after all. However, I thought the preference for anything western was mildly amusing and it's refreshing to be part of the mysterious other for a change.

Have you read Venus in Furs? I haven't read it, but I do know that it is not Asian, but the plot is tragically similar, where the woman is a cunt who neglects her adoring, but submissive lover for another. That seems to be the only conclusion that most femdom tales can reach.
