Daily reminder that reading books is another form of vanity...

Daily reminder that reading books is another form of vanity, and is not inherently better than fapping to plastic pornstars all day. There is no patrician or plebian, everyone is equally insignificant.

What impels you to make such a useless thread?

if that makes you feel better

That's just your opinion. Personally, in my own opinion, my view is that reading is in fact, indeed, better than fapping to plastic pornstars all day. We all have our own truths. In my world your truths are falsehoods.

Whatever the book you couldnt read was it doesn't matter you shouldn't be that bitter about your own laziness

Brainlet alert. Fuck of back to r9k retard

woah

Thanks. In my life I spend, as it were, a lot of time and space thinking about the philosophical questions about life and, so to speak, knowledge about the cosmos. Sometimes all, as it happens, when you stumble across, that is to say, someone else's truth in this little thing we call life and it converges with your own truth, which is to say in your opinion and worldview it is, so to say, not a falsehood, so that all you can really say is "woah". When someone says "woah" to me I think in my mind, yup I was once in his shoes and saying woah about this very same truth. It's nice to have a designated area on the web for truth convergences and findings with people on the same frequencies.

vanity implies that I discuss or exhibit my reading habits to anyone besides my family and anonymously online

by vanity you mean narcissism right

I like how none of you make plausible arguments. Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one must be silent. Or you'll end up looking like a fool. Nihilism is objective reality, the same for you or me. Our different perspectives doesn't change the fact that there is no ultimate difference between a wasted life and a full one. It was just an example. Just trying to show how hypocritical the average lit user is when he thinks that he's superior to normies.Vanity implies that you think that reading is more valuable than other activities and take pride in your doing it over other activities.

I am superior to you, through literature I have ascended towards enlightenment

Yes, I agree OP. Excellent post!

Wittgenstein wasn't a nihilist. Don't misuse his words.

>everyone is equally insignificant.
Yet you feel your opinion is important enough to warrant a thread all of its own

Nihilism is objective reality in your worldview. I am of the opinion, personally, that nihilism IS NOT objective reality. That's my truth. You've stated yours.

What enlightenment? What are the secrets of the universe hidden from men far worthier than you?
I just like that quote dog.
Not making or making this post is equally useless.
WTF? Does reality change with your opinion?

Not op, but this is clearly cognitive dissonance. There is an objective reality that is the amalgamation of all of our subjective realities. Even if it is ultimately untrue, it is 'truer' than your subjective experience. The sum of human knowledge leads us to assume that the universe is an empty abyss. Nothing you feel can be more accurate than that.

>WTF? Does reality change with your opinion?

Of course. Our opinions shape our realities.

My subjective experience is a particular happening in the universe, and is no less true than any other event that is occurring.

I am of the opinion that you are a slutty transsexual leprechaun. Doesn't change the fact that you probably aren't that though. The FACT, that's what matters. Outside of subjective reality, there must be an objective reality if your version of the universe isn't exceedingly solipsistic. And as far as we can gather, that objective reality is the emptiness of the universe. What you believe has no bearing on ultimate reality. You can delude yourself, but the facts remain clear.

Your subjective experience is true, your assumptions about the universe from it are false.

Hahahahha I know, I'll post another one of my contrarian threads! Hahahaha lol I'm not going to give any arguments, but if you respond by calling me out on my bullshit statements, I'll demand evidence and make you out to be a retard.
I am truly an intellectual :^)

Where have I demanded evidence? What bullshit has been spotted here?

But all individual truths exist in the same universe where exactly and only one truth applies, and every other interpretation is abysmally wrong and weak.

The universal truth matters most and depending on freedom of opinions is just failure to admit defeat.

Ignoring this truth is more practical than embracing it.

reading's a good remedy for recovering from ego death/depersonalisation as it's easier to listen to the authour instead of getting hung up on your own ideas. you're on a board where people read as a hobby, are you seriously surprised that there'd be at least a few elitists?

Plato in the Theatetus and Aristotle in the Metaphysics already debunked those statements. Remember to start with the Greeks kids.

>thinking you can conceive of that which cannot be conceived.

> no study to support his bold claim
> implies reading isn't immensely more productive than gawking at pornography

I don't see much benefit to pornography except that masturbation can provide a health benefit - it can ward off chances of prostate cancer.

However, reading offers an immense wealth of mental improvements. Reading frequently and carefully can improve one's lexicon, memory and understanding.

Reading fiction, if it's well written, can offer an appreciation of language expression, it can help readers develop sense of empathy, even if the characters aren't particularly likeable, and can sometimes even provide insight into the author or his times (e.g. Cervantes' Don Quixote's criticism of the fantasy books of romance and chivalry of his time shows the lacking of variety from his then-contemporaries, but his love of Don Quixote himself and Quixote's love of those such books shows a great expression of empathy - just because you don't like what another likes doesn't mean you can't love them all the same).

Reading non-fiction is a given: if it's a well-researched book, you gain vast amounts of knowledge in a variety of fields. Many textbooks and reference books offer significant levels of understanding and are useful to pupils, students, academics and scholars.

OP, your post is clearly bait but I had to bite because I can believe that there'd be some dumb motherfucker on here that actually somewhat believed what you said.

Translation:
>See qt girl at park
>Talk to her
>We hit it off
>Ask what her interests are
>"Books, reading and literature. Have you read any good books lately, OP?"
>"No, I don't read. Reading is insignificant and we're all gonna die one day. Why not just have sex and make our own literature (Wink wink)"
>Awkward silence, she eventually leaves

OP got buttblasted, cried and made this thread out of spite.
