Who is the Houellebecq of the Left?

Who is the Houellebecq of the Left?

...

Why ask such an idiotic question?

Orwell :3

Houellebecq

le pingouin!

You situate him on the "right"? He strikes me as someone who's a bit detached from the fray, someone makes funny and compelling observations. I don't see him as a right wing ideologue. A lot of writers historically leaned left in their personal lives but I don't see their work as aggressively informed by their politics.

I aint no holler back girl?

Let's see, who is his polar opposite
>white
>ugly
>french
>male
Sooo
>black
>pretty
>english
>female
Zadie Smith
/thread

Agree with your points for the most part but her observations aren't on Houellebecq's level.

Why can't he embody aspects of both "left" and "right"? Is life and one's individual mind so simple that it falls into a 200 year old dicotomy about who sat where in the French parliament?

Wasn't that the English parliament

She's also a clueless hack with a poor prose style and no originality of thought.

More proof the paradigm is debased currency today

>nihilists who call themself leftists actually try to believe this

He's reactionary user, deal with it.

I don't see him as right though. This user pretty much sums it up

>i ain't no Houellebecq, girl!
>i ain't no Houellebecq, girl!

You mean aside from Houellebecq himself?

he's very clearly a socialist with an anger that surpasses any desire to be seen as a decent type

>Zadie Smith
It's funny you mention her. She seems a little more opportunistic than Houellebecq. Consider what she wrote in this month's Harper's (I don't have anywhere else to post this but thought Veeky Forums might be interested) and also that she's basically a conventionally attractive woman who passes for white.
>But in this moment of resurgent black consciousness, God knows it feels good—therapeutic!—to mark a clear separation from white America, the better to speak in a collective voice. We will not be moved. We can’t breathe. We will not be executed for traffic violations or for the wearing of hoodies. We will no longer tolerate substandard schools, housing, health care. Get Out—as evidenced by its huge box office—is the right movie for this moment. It is the opposite of post-black or postracial. It reveals race as the fundamental American lens through which everything is seen. That part, to my mind, is right on the money. But the “us” and “them”? That’s a cheaper gag. Whether they like it or not, Americans are one people. (And the binary of black and white is only one part of this nation’s infinitely variegated racial composition.) Lobotomies are the cleanest cut; real life is messier. I can’t wait for Peele—with his abundant gifts, black-nerd smarts, comprehensive cinematic fandom, and complex personal experience—to go deeper in, and out the other side.

There are no talented left wing authors.

>It reveals race as the fundamental American lens through which everything is seen.
Has she never spoken to a white person?

I'd go deeper in and out her other side if you know what i mean

>It reveals race as the fundamental American lens through which everything is seen.
>Whether they like it or not, Americans are one people.
american is a race?

I don't know anything about Zadie Smith, but I'm impressed by this bit you posted. The paragraph starts terribly ("politics should be therapeutic!") but ends with a call to unity between races. It's odd to read an educated person, let alone an educated black person, calling for less racial division anymore.

As for the thread's actual topic: Houellebecq is the Houellebecq of the left. A right-winger would just assume that '68 was shit, but Houellebecq shows the reader how it fails by its own criteria. He's a former lefty who got burned and is speaking to other lefties and former lefties. A true reactionary wouldn't bother.

Good god, mixed-race people go way too far trying to identify with a side. You can't be a happy person with thoughts like these in your head. Even if it's just cynically trolling a hot-topic.

Did you and I read the same quotation? If anything, she's resisting identifying with a side: "'us' vs 'them' is a cheap gag." You might have misunderstood her, though, because she has to do that huge virtue-signaling wind up to please Harper's readers.

She says that 'us' vs 'them' is a cheap gag in the same paragraph she uses 'we' as in we black people. I don't know why she's pandering to American niggers, I guess it's her tribal brain choosing a side.
She's the perfect "conscious" liberal. I listened to a podcast with her the other day, where they talked about Trump and Brexit and how older people are mostly to blame for Brexit because they were nostalgic in a way a black woman can't afford to be nostalgic for the past (her example was 1942 America) and then in the same podcast she was being nostalgic about the '90s well guess what my country was at war back then. Fuck yes older people are nostalgic for the times without niggers and arabs, but mixed race people live in dreamlands.
In the podcast she also talked about how she doesn't ler her daughter watch tv shows for teenage girls or read girl magazines and then she had a "I am a feminist with all my heart but what am I really saying to her though? That girls are stupid? We need to find a way to make feminine not humiliating" moment.
Bitch feminists are the ones that are making the feminine humiliating.
This woman went to Cambridge ffs and she can't get past her skin colour. The only reason she's famous is because she's getting diversity awards, which is why I respect Houellebecq all the more.
As Camille Paglia said, artist in the past had something to lose, now they are getting awards and being reviewed in the NYT. You can tell by the awards and the reviews who is writing something important for this day and age and who is a """""writer"""""

They're both obsessed with Lovecraft

Something about this picture makes him remind me of the Mr. Clean Guy more than usual.

Nick Land

In our times there are no truer reactionaries than former lefties because most intelligent people are either lefties or former lefties.

Christopher Hitchens
Marlon James
Coetzee

This, white people dont give a fuck unless black violence is pushed in their face (or blocks their commute)

this

Hitchens was a neocon

>Marlon James
Underrated

>implying neoconservatism isn't the rear-guard of the progressive left

What's Marlon James's deal? He has dreads and wrote a book called "A Brief History of Seven Killings," so I lumped him in with the post-Ferguson rush of black liberal writers. The book's good?

>Marlon James
SJW piece of shit who happens to be a genius and hates everything about modern liberalism. Also a racialist. + because he doesnt inject typical racialist tropes into his books.

Please explain how neoconservatives and the progressive left are in bed together without mentioning Jews or cultural marxism

Not him, but the belief that state action can legislate ideal utopian outcomes without unintended consequence.

I see. I figured he meant it in a more literal sense. Thanks.

I'm both a Jew and an ex-neocon, but I'm also drunk as a skunk, so I don't know if I can explain it well right now, but I think that the neocon right is basically what the left was at the moment of the passage of the civil rights act in 1964. So the left preserves it because they can use this fragmented version of themselves to demonize whenever they want to, whereas the establishment right essentially believes that liberalism was best at this point (see: Bill Kristol).

The point is not that they're wrong (on the contrary, I think that the elder Kristol, Daniel Patrick Moynihan, and their ilk were essential right about domestic, if not international, policy) but that there's a controlled, but essentially submissive, opposition for the mainstream liberal establishment to demonize. This is, also, I think, the origin of "cuck" as an insult; these conservatives are serving the interests of their opponents.

Also, I'm drunk as a motherfucker and I've not heard it elsewhere, but I just wish that Jews and Christians in American would make a pact to 1) defend Judaism in Israel, BUT ALSO, and MAYBE FIRST, 2) defend Christianity in America. I'm a Jew, but I'm an American Jew, and I recognize that Anglo-Saxon Protestantism has been the best thing to happen to Jews in the history of forever, and I would gladly fight for an American Christian identity because it's good for the Jews and it's good for America. So imagine this a plea to all the rando Jews and Stormfronters on Veeky Forums: our interests are not necessarily at odds.

/pol/tard here, I have no problem with the vast majority of American Jews. Eh, they've got their quirks and have too much of a soft spot for Israel, but the conservative ones are incredibly based. Jews are an example of the supportive community white Christians should strive to achieve. I'm just sick of the overwhelmingly leftist and cosmopolitan Jews who think they can get away with bashing hardworking and beleaguered white Christian communities, who graciously allowed them in their country in the first place, while also working (whether by conspiracy or by game theory, I choose mostly the latter) to exfiltrate national assets abroad via corporate globalism.

Both support democracy™ (rule of opinion-makers) and exporting democracy™ (war).

>a conventionally attractive woman who passes for white.

Nice shilling there, (((mate)))

Can you post his criticism of the left?

I get what you're saying. In the current climate, it's not really picking a side. Being a POC, especially a WOC is like a merit badge. She gets to cross boundaries and be the voice of ultimate reason
