In general I don't like trans representation that is too cloying or political. Really enjoyed Last Exit To Brooklyn's depiction of trans women who were sexy, smart, conceited, drug-addicted, and generally fuck ups.

Trans have always existed in one way ore another: many traditional societies recognised a third gender (ie. Samoa, Thailand) without it being much of a deal. Studies suggest trans people's brains display both male and female characteristics. Late capitalism does nothave a concept of community, it knows only the sovereign consumer on one side and abstract society on the other. The atomised consumer is free 'just be him/herself' and receive the recognition of abstract society, but restricted otherwise restricted, leading to a Total commodification of the self. This is why identity crisis is universal under late capitalism.

Do trans-peeps actually realise this? It seems like they have a desperation to portray themselves as normal when it seems quite evident that they're a normalised aberration stemming from a crisis-point in society.

As an outsider, it appears to be as if these people are striving for a form of hyper-individualisation. They want to define themselves as something to stand out from the rest of the crowd. It's a psychological issue manifested into physical form.
As the post I replied to said, it's likely due to a lack of community and order. The individual only knows themselves and the abstract society so they desperately seek order in a community. Whether it's being part of the LGBTQ+ crowd, or a Corbyn/Sanders voter.

At least in the USA, our society is continuing to devalue individualism and is instead consistently enforcing the value. strength, and importance of group identities (just look at the way we talk about society today - instead of venerating the rugged individualist and frontiersman that we did 30+ years ago, we today talk about group social movements - BLM, LGBTQ, Femimism, "Intersectionality," etc).
As a result kids are brought up not seeing themselves as individuals, but members of a larger group. And when they grow up not fitting fully into a group (i.e. a girl who likes boyish things, or a boy who likes girly things), they decide it's time to move over to another group, or to create some small group that fits them to a T (but doesn't really, because no group is going to). As opposed to the past when being part of a group was less important (and indeed when it was something that people viewed with some measure of skepticism).

Life is too short for bores. You absolutely should find a trans girl to date. I'm working on fiction about cross dressing, homosexuality and transsexualism. But it isn't political. It's about love and friendship. I really dislike stories that are gritty or grimy or otherwise gross. I like something "softer" and more realistic (for me anyway). I've never lived in big cities or ever experienced extreme or degrading sex, etc. Thats why I can't stand fiction about transgender people. I have to go to manga. But manga is too light and sometimes rather silly. Anyway. I think there will be an audience. Might help guys in your position.

But it's odd how no serious writers have dealt with this topic even adequately. Or have appreciated how much beauty is there. It seems incredible. Because the literary potential is obvious. I'm open to trying amazon. One thing I'm sure of is that I'm never submitting to a traditional publisher. The financial split is terrible, and seems like it's preying on insecure, egotistical writers who want to be a Published Author and aren't aware that we're living in a digital age.

It's pretty bad I agree. But do you have an audience ready to receive you work? The problem I have with self publishing on Amazon is that I don't know how to get readers to buy my book. I'd love to read your work. You have a website or blog? I'm told every writer needs one of those as well. In fact I heard from someone that even many traditional publishers strongly prefer you have a good size readership or following ready before they'll look at the manuscript.
I don't care about any of that. I'm so confident in my writing that I expect it to be spread by the readers rather than the industry. If this approach falls flat, well then, guess I need to do better next time.
Even if my novel ends up meaning something to only one person in this lonely world, I will consider writing it worth my effort. I'm not looking for fortune or fame or respect.
