Is this the greatest book ever written? It's not often a novel brings tears to my eyes from its sheer beauty.

It's alright.
Anna Karenina is the only other book that made me feel this strongly. I haven't read War and Peace yet, but that will probably be next on the list.
pleb.
Les Mis is sentimental socialist propaganda
I'm a classical liberal, but this book really resonates with me on on a very deep level. Is most great 19th century literature socialist? Tolstoy was sympathetic towards this view as well.
i think if anything the socialist sentiment in 19th c lit was a reaction to industrialization, eg milton's satanic mills
It's the Christian in you that's responding that way. And regardless of Tolstoy's public affinities, the guy was an oligarch in his actions through and through. He basically treated the women who worked for him as sex slaves.
>french
>greatest book ever written
no. fuck no.
It has fucking long digressions about the most boring shit imaginable, just so Hugo can wank off from his own bloated intellect. No, it is not the greatest work ever written.
it's pretty damn good, but nah
i cried many times
It's good, but IMO Don Quixote deserves that title.
i am waiting for it to get turned into anime because dickens tier 19th century serialized novels are cancer also it has a loli i guess
the count of monte cristo one was good

Funny, I have read War and Peace but not AK. Hope its as good, but I doubt.
Anna Karenina > War and Peace > Les Miserables in my opinion
Tolstoy is just so great at writing believable characters.
Is that translation good?
>tfw I can't bring myself to read this book because of theaterfags
Even looking at the cover makes me shudder a little
It couldn't be more different than the theatre adaptation. They even misconstrued the entire theme and dropped half the plotlines
Dickens is great you faggot.
