In traditional haiku, yes.
Haiku is meant to be referential and as vague as possible, leaving the reader guessing about the scene as much as possible without totally leaving them blind. Its supposed to be representative of things, in order to better transport the reader into the state of being of when the piece was written.
Something like that anyways.
