Is a moderate amount of pessimism a good trait to look for in a woman?

I had a discussion about this with my public speaking course, and when I shared with the class that I valued pessimism, the entire class gasped so hard that I felt like I was being sucked into their ideologies. I then had to defend myself, explaining that what I wanted wasn't pragmatism nor cynicism.

I used to be an ugly friendless loser. I started running every day, paying attention to how I dress, and generally working on self-improvement and my life got better in every way. Don't ever get stuck in the endless /r9k/ misery olympics, go out and actually put effort into yourself.

Andy Warhol is garbage though. I'm not just saying that to be edgy either, every artist influenced by him and every critic who likes him proves me here.

Also, I have yet to know anyone who loves Kierkegaard and actually applies him. The last person I met who "loves Kierkegaard" was a Catholic woman who slept around with both sexes. Kierkegaard is real demanding, but those who "love" him and read him a lot seem to just care about the intellectual stimulation he provides, his ideas are treated like toys.

I agree, for an overly optimistic or ambitious woman it will be hard to have realistic goals in life (and to stay faithful).

I believe that it's the hyperawareness of the possibility that anything can go wrong in a given situation, and in order to avoid being adversely affected, you constantly need to plan and adapt yourself to keep those fears in check.

Someone in my class said that I might have confused pessimism for cynicism, but I believe that cynicism is just a symptom of the former. To my understanding, cynicism is the inclination to believe that people act solely out of self-interest.

I hate optimism, because it can make you blind and unaware if you have too much.
