I've watched enough hentai to know whats gonna happen to that penguin.

>and Other Weird Stories

What?

>releasing a popular book with a trendy design

May be plebby but it sells and they get $$$$$$$

A short story writer wrote other short stories, and the publisher chose to fill out a volume with them. I know it's a crazy idea.

>Has Penguin given up?
YES

Lovecraft's genre of fiction is called "Weird Fiction." It's how he referred to his works himself.

happened a while ago

i unironically like book covers like these. they're colorful and interesting. perhaps too cringy to read in public, but who reads in front of other people anyway

How many times are they going to release this fucking thing?

They gave up when they created that science fiction label and did a hardcover of Dune.

Lovecraft isn't that bad but what an atrocious cover design.

that's the point you quadroon

Literally. like LITERALLY the most well known phrase about books is to fucking not. judge. them. by. the. cover. Who fucking cares, I would read a book full of pink veiny cocks on the cover as long as the book is amazing. Fantasy books are notorious for having trash tier covers and some of them are still good.

You autists are fucking stupid.

The covers are fine. They are professionally crafted. People will notice them. They will sell, as they are intended to. None of you are professional publishers and barely have an inkling on what works as a cover, beyond your own limited subject values.

They're artsy for sure, but they are doing so in a creative way that plays with the stock format. And integrating the Penguin logo into it was a nice touch for sure, since penguins actually appear as livestock in the shoggoth story.

What's wrong with reading covers like these in public? These aren't even hyper pulpy covers with half naked ladies with DD racks. Do you betas allow yourself to get shamed by the judgment of people who don't even read? If you can't stand up for things that you harbor an interest in, you don't deserve to enjoy them, or anything at all really.

Good, someone with sense.

The covers are objectively shit. 7/10 made me respond.

You haven't even read Lovecraft.

No fucking shit.

I honestly really like this cover and think would sell very well, it seems very approachable.

>Penguin Classics
>Classics
Stay classy, Penguin

>but who reads in front of other people anyway
I read exclusively on trains

this is fucked

These covers are just so much better.

>give meme author a meme cover so memesters buy it to meme it up online with memey selfies and such

Smart move desu. Got to get that pleb dollar.

>waah waah i need academicist dreck to go with MUH LOVERCRAFT OEUVRE so i can feel dignified reading it in front of normies
stfu pasty nerd

Buy the superior edition. Clothbound and comfy with a display box.

I love it when I forget to attach my image

When, long ago, the gods created Earth
In Jove's fair image Man was shaped at birth.
The beasts for lesser parts were next designed;
Yet were they too remote from humankind.
To fill the gap, and join the rest to Man,
Th'Olympian host conceiv'd a clever plan.
A beast they wrought, in semi-human figure,
Filled it with vice, and called the thing a Nigger.

As much as I don't care what a cover looks like, pink veiny cocks might be a limit.

>I need epic monster stuff on my cover so i don't have to imagine what cthulu looks like

You're probably not even Irish cunt

as much as i hate those meme'd up Barnes and Noble hardbacks, i actually like their edition of lovecraft. it walks the line between kitsch and aestheticism, like lovecraft himself.

...

Took you long enough.

I like that art but it doesn't belong on the cover of Dubliners.

Oh my, yes.

kek

i like this unironically

neck yourself

Haha nice one reddit

Thats a lovely cover, get over yourself

FUCKING KEK

>White woman miscegenating with black man above the O

It checks out

reposting the classic that started it all

penguin should go back to those powdery teals. the covers were just classier

>kek
Why would you do this?

Unironically better than the Penguin version.

To me something like this just looks cheap.
They just put some classic art and a box with title and author that could be pasted on any other painting.

Compare that to the cover they have now.

Who cares about the cover design? It's only there to grab your attention in a bookshop. You can't see the cover whilst reading, and you only see the spine when the book is shelved. People who care about cover art seem to me like they're more interested in how they look to others on pulic transport than the content of the book.

>Hating on book covers
>The one thing you AREN'T looking at when reading a book

wow

haha great covers desu senpai

You are so off-point I don't believe you're serious

Idk why you guys are hating on. I quite like it.

...

What? Why?

>made in china
nah bruh

This is the only acceptable B&N book. That or their old school brown/black leather ones

kys you lost normie

>its real

Oh fuck off. This has to be fan art.

>artsy
die

ahhaha what the fuck. is that real

What about Arkham House's Lovecraft covers?

...

Nice, they used my favorite scene from Mountains of Madness for the cover art!

...

>old /b/ memes are reddit/normie now
Braindead parrots.

>wordsworth classics

I never get sick of posting these

>the call of cthulhu
>no tentacles in that story

well done, penguin!

>it will sell therefore it's good
Capitalism has killed art

I unironically hate these, they feel so boring and formulaic

"Tekeli-li!" I like that Penguin cover!

I like this one.

They aren't judging the book by the cover, they're judging the cover by the cover

The one for The Invisible Man is great.

I like these covers the best

What do you guys think of this cover? Shoul I buy it?

which is the best penguin line is it modern classics?

> 3 eyed Cthulhu
Funny that Lovecraft drew him that way yet most artists dropped the third eye later.

Undoubtedly

Yes, and it gets worse.

Get out.

WOW that is bad

look at the comments they love it
lovecraftianhorror.blogspot.com/2011/09/new-penguin-edition-of-hpl.html

Thank you. I don't read lovecraft.

That's kinda cringe. But i blame modernity.

Oh, i have this one

The inside flaps have little pseudo expressionist comics illustrating lines from The Sisters & The Dead. They're fun.

Exactly. If art is going to be on a book cover, it should be tasteful and vaguely representative of what's going on with the book. Nothing overzealous such as the ones being pumped out now. Really, just the books title with the authors name are the best covers imo. Leaves all the books contents to the imagination, and there is no room to judge the cover for the cover's sake, let alone for the books sake.

Which of these two should I start with?

>introduction from series editor Guillermo Del Toro
Fucking hell. Why are they slumming it like this? Filmmakers have zero credibility when it comes to literature.

Seriously Huck Finn looks like a gay romance novel here, why

On a related note, which publishing houses put out the most aesthetically pleasing books?

I'm partial to Everyman's Library myself.

*a gay hobbit romance novel

Pseuds. This is booktuber tier.

New York Review Books Classics for paperbacks

What's funny is Penguin made that a hardcover, black ink edging and all.

You know it's a penguin classic because:
1) it's a male penguin;
2) shilling his literary views and horror short shtories;
3) a tentacle is hiding his schlong.
4) if it was a penguina (female penguin), we'd be witnessing a brassiere a la tentacle.

They should have made it an albino penguin like in Mountains of Madness.
