Are light novels (ライトノベル) literature?

Are light novels (ライトノベル) literature?

What are the essentials?

by definition? Yes, by artistic merit? No

None

I liked Vampire Hunter D, mostly for the pictures.

This

Play VNs instead. There are a few of those that get close to being quality literature.

...

Because light novels are trash that are dragged out with filler for as many volumes as possible and are written for teenagers.

VNs have filler too. I'd appreciate recs of VNs with good pacing, since it seems like a slow genre to me.

Why be into either when you're EOPs?

I'm a Japanese language learner. Already finished Hanahira. I'll be consuming all of that Japanese shit in no time!

I'm not even that into this stuff, I just want to be able to look down on EOPs

Katanagatari is the only worthwhile LN

Sure, they have filler. But they tell a story and then end.

Because translated ones are available. What kind of stupid question is this? The fact that you don't have access to the entirety of a medium doesn't mean you can't enjoy what's available.

Wow, congratulations on finishing a short VN about elementary schoolers.

You don't need to know moonrunes to look down on EOPs.

Yeah but it's comfier this way. I'll also be able to read Japanese meme literature like Murakami in the original. Not to mention all those other great Japanese authors!

Lol

Thanks dude! I will never forget your kind words!

Most have manga syndrome. Harem shit; power fantasy and so on. It's just a manga without drawings.

There are very few good ones. Good premise but the road is not planned at all, so we have fillers, road changers and other bullshit. If you think oreimo and toradora have over 1000 pages... the count of Montecristo and lord of the rings are of this length, I don't wanna post the schopenhauer pic on time but you get where this is going.

Anyway, read welcome to nhk. From there go to anime list, the light novel section is pretty accurate on what is good and what is not.

Anime list? My anime list? Wouldn't that be too biased towards translated works?

As far as I know, Welcome to the NHK is not even light novel, which is one of the reasons mods on MAL deleted it from there.

If you want to talk about untranslated LNs you would probably have better luck on /jp/. They have LN threads sometimes.

How do you measure "artistic merit"?

To be honest, I've come to the conclusion that porn is the only worthwhile Japanese thing.

Anime
Manga
LN

You'll just get bored of all the cliches before long. With porn, however, I find the Western content more cookie-cutter boring stuff. And you'll spend a sizeable part of your life looking at porn, so learning Japanese is ultimately not a waste, I think.

We had this thread before.
Mass made, mass marketed self indulging garbage that has no intention of staying in the readers mind longer than a subway ride from A to B. Produced for the now, not for the future. The pinnacle of consumerism. Fast, cheap and it's innocent in the eyes of the tired modern man.

If you could have a cushy life writing this trite, would you do it?

Do LN writers generally have cushy lives? I wonder if they have to work under similar stress and deadlines as manga artists.

Hey user, can you suggest some more for a newbie Japanese learner here. Great fan of English Veeky Forums

Japanese music is great though.
