It's very poorly drawn and got inflated good press based on the fact that it was made by an oppressed wymyn of color despite its lack of aesthetic and/or literary merit. The fact that critics had a hard on at the time for ""graphic novels"" (aka I'm going to read a comic album but am too embarrassed to say I'm reading a comic album) no doubt helped as well.
