Does Veeky Forums make cocktails? What's your favorite kind to make/drink?
I've just been getting into it and here's what I've made so far:
>gin and tonic
>old fashioned
>martini

Pouring gin and then briefly glancing at the vermouth from across the room.

>not 3 shots gin 1 shot vermouth

On back to Dresden you go.

Why not just drink iced gin if you're not going to add any easily discernible amount of vermouth?

>not vodka

...

In the off chance you're not a troll. Winston Churchill was accused of being more than just obese, and his "gin only" "martini" is a long running joke. The catastrophe if not genocide in Dresden was a hint, and no I am not British nor German; history just gets buried.

I thought you were talking about a bar in LA that makes wet martinis called The Dresden

G&T is my favorite drink. In no particular order my other favorites are
>Old Fashioneds
>Martini (lemon for gin ones, olive for vodka)
>Negroni/Boulevardier
>Manhattan
>Mules

>drinking liquor
that's for women.
men drink beer.

perfect sidecar:
>1.75oz cognac
>.75oz grand marnier
>2 teaspoons lemon juice
>just under a quarter teaspoon of cointreau

Old fashions and creamy drinks.

French Pearl
>3/4 shot gin
>1/4 shot absinthe
>1 oz lime juice
>1 oz simple syrup
>spring of burnt thyme for flavor and garnish

original recipe goes with mint, but I like rosemary better

>tfw been drinking cocktails out of red wine glasses for weeks like a philistine
>tfw finally got around to buying some proper cocktail glasses, highball glasses and old fashioned glasses

Everyone should try a good sidecar at least once.

I'm interested in finding out why you choose to use both grand marnier and cointreau

Would Gordon's Gin be ok to use in a martini?

Any London dry gin will work. Obviously the nicer the gin the better the martini

Might try it later on, normally I'd use Bombay sapphire but Gordon's was on special.
Gordon's works well in a G&T but I fear it may be harsh in a martini.

trader vics mai tai's are fucking delicious.

other than that, all the classics that everyone else has mentioned.

Related: is bartending school worth $300 or can I learn everything on my own?

I'm a big fan of simple highballs. Having a nice Dark and Stormy a la Gosslings right now.

No it's a waste of money. Most bars that see anyone try to put that on their resume laugh and toss it in the trash.
If you wanna learn how to mix drinks/cocktails/whatever you wanna call it I have a few sources and some advice. Killing time with pic related since I'm a filthy hipster, so I'll post back later.

Sooooooo good.

wtf that looks like somebody floated olive oil on that martini

Chivas and water
Wild turkey chased by steel reserve (mixed in my stomach)
Margaritas
Dirty martinis while eating olives from the jar
White russians
amaretto cranpinapple juice and cognac
Negronis with olives (dirty niggers)
Fine scotch with squirt soda and the fake lemon juice that comes in the plastic lemon container

Fight me

does popov and generic soda count? that's usually what I drink.

Whiskey and Coke.

Its a great drink if you want to get blasted because it tastes good with a few shots or being a 50/50 drink.

stop getting your opinions on cocktails from shitty movies

Aviation
>2oz Gin
>1/2oz Maraschino Liqueur
>1/2oz lemon juice
>1/4oz Creme de Violette
>garnish with single cherry at the bottom

Skyblue with a setting sun

Vesper

What is the proper type of olive to put in a martini?

Is it just any old stuffed olive?

Mojito, especially when it's a hot day.
>muddle mint leaves and 1 teaspoon of sugar syrup in glass
>add ice
>4 teaspoons of lime juice
>30ml of white rum
>top up with soda water
Can add a lime wedge as a garnish, but I usually don't bother. Super refreshing and tasty, can drink them all night.

Big fan of Manhattans. Add a little bit of the maraschino juice to mine.

I'm a huge bourbon man, but old fashioned's never turn out right for me.

It's cold here so I make Hot toddy's:
>1 pt Lemonjuice
>1-2 tsp Honey
>1 pt Whisky
>Fill glass with hot water and dissolve the honey by stirring.

Hot toddies are really cozy. My preferred one is Grog Alsacien:
>1 oz rhum agricole blanc
>1/2 oz pine liqueur
>1/2 oz lemon juice
>1 tsp sugar
Top with hot water and add cloves.

>Drinking hops aka the soy of botanicals
Pass
I miss it too

...

I'm looking for a cocktail with these characteristics
>easy to make
>refreshing (for hot days)
>NOT SOUR (this is the most important part)
Any recommendations? I was thinking something like a Long Island iced tea but I'm not about to go buy five different bottles of liquor to mix a single drink

Pimms or Sangria, anytihng with slices of fruit in is amazing on a hot day

How about a Checkers? Equal parts white rum, Old Tom gin (not dry gin), pineapple juice and dry vermouth, shaken and served up.

>pineapple juice
Too sour
I think I'll try sangria, too bad I have to chill it overnight

how is fucking pineapple juice sour

8oz Everclear
8oz Sunny D
A spash Grenadine (optional)
Mix in a pint glass
Wa la. The perfect Hobo Sunrise

how do you feel about bitter?
>Campari
>Soda
>lime
Or perhaps a shade on the sweet/floral side
>3 oz dry gin
>1 oz St. Germaine
>shake over over
>twist of lime

both of these are refreshing af on a hot day, and super easy to make.

>is bartending school worth
Yes.
>300$
No.

An introduction course could cost you less than that. Afterwards is practice, tasting and reading. I did a more advanced course with several topics like botanics, wine tasting, competition technique and none of it was ever applied to the point in which it was worth it.

Good bartenders are made in the bar although my first bartender teacher was good shit. He competed worldwide and stuff.

In college we invented the Mountain Gew (pronounced Jew)
>Mountain Dew
>Cheap Gin
>ice

Cheap as fuck. Tastes surprisingly good, and gets you fucked up because equal parts of alcohol and caffene. Perfect for day drinking.

Caipirinha or Mojito with less lime.

How is it not, it's one of the most acidic fruit out there

Club soda or ginger ale for sangria?

I do something called a Blush 2015 its ok.
gin
vodka
cranberry juice or syrup
Pineapple juice
Ice
shake and serve

oh and lime juice

So I made the sangria, the shop I went to only had kilo bags of fruit so I got oranges and no lemons
I also used whiskey instead of bourbon
It's tasty, thought it would come up even sweeter but it's just right
Good stuff, probably gonna down the whole pitcher

Buy my fucking game its freezing outside

I like how sweet the grand marnier is and I really like how "bitter" the cointreau is. but I didn't want too much of the bitterness. I find that sidecars that only use cointreau are way too bitter and don't go down as easy.

sidecars are really subjective. as Robert Hess would say "a sidecar has to taste like a sidecar" and to me this is what a sidecar should taste like.

that's a good recipe, but try floating the creme de violette! that's the more "authentic" way. creme de violette bruises really easy imo, so I'd always float it.

do you use bourbon for your manhattans? if so try rye next time!

>all these tasty sounding cocktails i can't afford to buy the ingredients for

Why say thyme in the recipe then I'm so confused you cuck

The alcohol in the liquid is gone and it remains in the fruit. So, the more fruit you eat, the drunker you'll get.

Why is vodka so shit for everything?

Pimm's Cup

The fuck are your even talking about, retard?

Bocce ball is my go to.

>Dresden bombing
>genocide
Pseud alert!

You'll have to drain that aquifer before you bury history further into some more lying mud.

I'm not saying Dresden wasn't reprehensible, but there is no reasonable argument for being a genocide.

Was going to answer but... got to his own question before I did. +depth +sweetness -bitterness without syrup.

It was heavily advised that the bombing was more revenge than a tactical maneuver. Hell, the US president sent a letter. That's more significant during wartime in an older era, something that newer generations seem to forget. That and the fact that there was little neutral communication to civilians who sometimes didn't even know there was a war until being pressed into service against foreign invaders.

Destroying cities that had only minimal military value is questionable at best. The US is forever criticized for hitting two back-up targets, but at least they were far more significant and in the hands of people who would kill themselves without orders to quit. Not saying the US didn't fuck up with internment camps or other atrocities; I'm just saying that Dresden was likely just an act of genocide against Germany.

What does pimms taste like?

I like making Moscow mules so much I bought a copper mug for them
I also like making whiskey sours and white Russians.

I drunkenly mixed Gin & Cherry Coke at a party once. It was actually really good so now I drink that

m'gentlesir

I really hope so. Cheers buddy

see

Anything with 16oz of simple syrup.

gin

I'm drinking something called an "Irish Kiss"(Renamed a Southern Kiss due to substitution of Bourbon for Irish whisky) right now

>1 1/2 ounce Irish Whisky
>1/2 ounce Peach Schnapps
>4 ounces ginger ale
>2 ounces Orange Juice
>Garnish with Lime wedge (dash of lime juice otherwise)
Combine ingredients in a Tom Collins glass with ice and stir.

Pretty fuckin tasty senpai.

>Negronis with olives (dirty niggers)
this sounds fucking disgusting but im so curious now

I'd love to drink cocktails/drinks, but i don't want to buy several bottles at once. When i drink i get one bottle of whiskey, vodka or rum and drink it.

Was gifted this by a friend recently. Way better than expected; tastes like sweet (but not too sweet) tea with a bit of heat. Has enough alcohol and subdued enough sweetness to use as a decent base spirit. This is the best cocktail I've gotten out of it so far:

>1.5oz Sweet tea liqueur
>.5oz Lime juice
>.25oz Grand Marnier
>Shake
>Fill with hard cider (preferably a drier one with aggressive carbonation)

There's a lot you can find in pints. Grab a pint or two of different spirits/liqueurs from time to time. Since you use different bottles in different quantities you won't run out of everything at once.

right now i have Whisky, sweet vermouth, rum, brandy, campari, and jenever. I also have old fashioned bitters, simple syrup, and some oranges.
What cocktail should i make?
I've been drinking old fashioneds but i'm tired of em. I can always pick up a few more things if necessary

Try a Boulevardier. Traditionally it is equal parts whiskey, sweet vermouth, and campari but I usually up the whiskey content a little more.

Ill check it out, thanks

Question, I recently got a bottle of Earl Grey English liqueur and from the Googling I was able to do it seems like they don't make this anymore? And a copyright and a copyright note says 1988 so I have two questions. First is if it is still "good" to drink, second is because they don't make it anymore should I just keep it sealed and sell it if I has value or am I being a fucking autistic? Thank you very much.

Real men drink beer to stay hydrated, and whisky the rest of the time, pussy.

>Harsh
If it is, dirty it up with a touch of the okive brine and it should help mask it.

>Wild turkey chased by Steel Reserve
Why don't you just make a Boilermaker by dropping a shot glass of the wild turkey into a glass of Steel Reserve?

I will second both of these. Pimms and lemonade is deadly.

Alcoholics don't waste time with stupid bullshit like "presentation".

Alcoholics don't have to chase shots with beer.

Really can't argue that

I only drink 2 cocktails:

1) Green River
1½ oz. Tanqueray Gin
¼ oz. Yellow Chartreuse
½ oz. Plymouth Sloe Gin
1 oz. Quevedo NV 30 White Port
1 Cherry

2) Last of the Oaxacans
¾ oz. Montelobos Joven Mezcal
¾ oz. Fresh Lime Juice
¾ oz. Maraschino Liqueur
¾ oz. Green Chartreuse
1 Cherry
Lime Slice

I inherited 12 cases of Green and Yellow Chartreuse from my Grandfather.
I have 1 cocktail on the last Sunday of the month usually at sunset.
I also smoke a hand rolled cigarillo.
Sitting on my porch.
In my Grandfather's chair.
He did the same, so I carry on the ritual.
