Grow up wanting to be an artist

>grow up wanting to be an artist
>love art, win multiple competitions
>senior year of high school approaches
>I know I'm forced to go into stem if I want to live
>feels real bad man

Anybody else forced into stem? The worst part is that I'm going to a top 10, which also happens to be high ranked in art.

I guess chemical engineering is neat... Right guys?

You become an artist by creating stuff you like. If you need to go to school to learn 'how to art' you're a fucking moron and deserve to spend your life in poverty.

>forced to go into STEM

By who? Fuck this autism is beyond comprehension.

By the way, without natural talent in STEM you won't ever pass your freshman year so just transfer to your liberal arts professional starbucks cashier degree.

Wtf are you talking about
>natural talent in stem
Stfu with this elitism. I got my stem degree with no "natural talent", just study and work ethics

Get out of chemical engineering if you don't like it, we're full. You're not gonna be successful unless you move to the middle of nowhere or are have connections already. Oil is fucked, manufacturing is fucked, and your job is gonna be outsourced.

If you stick with it you'll see that there are some things in engineering that require a lot of creativity.

>my mom is mechanical engineer, designing tractors gearboxes and shit for the communist party
>my dad is aspiring sculpture artist
>the regime is down, my mom lost her job, and gave birth to me year later
>dad is making mad money coz he can sell abroad, now that the regime is gone

>fast forward I am 6 and got into some kind of private school till 7th grade, we have extra 2 hours of arts and art history every week
>go to the national highschool of liberal arts
>go to the national liberal art academy with sculpture bs
>finish it, be skillful etc.

>am 22 now, hate art (modern) and want to learn computer science and how to program and stuff like that

I feel like I wasted my life, I want to start over really :(

Get your degree, and do art as a side project.
Like Kafka.

>no "natural talent", just study and work ethics

I am surprised that you were even able to graduate, given that you are this fucking stupid. So stupid you can say in one sentence that you do not have something and then in the next one say that you have it.

But yeah, study and work ethics is not part of any natural talent, everyone can do it. This is why the graduation rate in STEM is 100% and no one fails. When someone starts falling down all they have to do is study more and improve their work ethic and they are always able to do this given that there is no natural talent involved.

Fuck are you retarded. How can someone be so ignorant of their own words?

No faggot, I just don't want to live as a chemical engineer but if I were to go to sharpen my sculpting I may be happy. However art school is too expensive
>calls me autistic
>does the stereotypical neckbeard "stem is natural" thing
Kek. Anyways, I basically AM forced if I want a job.
Might just do economics then. Jesus Christ I thought stem was supposed to be the whole job meme field

>>does the stereotypical neckbeard "stem is natural" thing

topkek, the problem is that you haven't gotten in. Just wait until your first semester and you will start seeing the gap. There are people who literally cannot understand even something as trivial as calculus.

That is why typically Calc II is called a weed out course, given that so many people fail it and because Calc being a requirement for everything have to do something else or repeat it a billion times.

If you are so *TRIGGERED* then you don't have to call it natural talent. Call it the grade gap or whatever. The point is that most people fail to graduate from the STEM course they started.

There are stats for this, look it up. Google graduation rates or some shit.

>being this fat

Heck, I got interested and did the grunt work for you

nscblog.org/2015/11/six-year-stem-graduation-rates-low/

Using the sample of a 2008 starting class, they measured the percentage of students that graduated AFTER SIX YEARS.

Note that a degree is finished in just 4 years so this means a fraction of the people who graduated had to repeat various classes.

The best group had a 17% graduation rate, the worst group had a 6% graduation rate.

Six fucking percent.

Do you believe me now?

Topkek, the joke is that I am actually barely above skelly mode and I do regular exercise ever since high school.

But yeah, keep projecting. I already backed up my claims with stats and evidence here Keep being *triggered* by facts, lets see how far your attitude takes you in life, sperg.

>high minority schools have a consistently lower graduation rate (a bit more than half) than low minority schools
What did he mean by this.

By minority I suppose they mean racial minorities. And that makes sense. The people who carry out these studies are social scientists and if there is one thing social scientists love is pointing out how everything is racist so instead of studying graduation rates in general they also studied it by race and I guess that is a worthwhile study but I don't really give a shit.

I mean, everyone knows that most institutions are racist. Is there even a point to keep finding evidence for it?

However, that is not really important for this topic. The point is that even at the whitest, richest schools, the graduation rate is 17%. That is pityful and proves my point greatly.

White schools have higher graduation rates. Schools with lots of minorities, like blacks, hispanics, or Asians, tend to have lower graduation rates.

Good artists are in demand, unless you are a retard that did not went digital

>Good artists are in demand
>Good

That is OP's problem. If he was good then he would already have a scholarship to study art or he would have a succesful patreon account where people pay him to draw my little pony porn.

If he lacks both then he is mediocre at best.

He si right though

Art schools don't do rides and such. You can still apply for financial aid but you're still paying 200,000.
And I'm not drawing pony porn lol.

If STEM is all about studying and work ethic (and it is) but this had nothing to do with natural talent (In other words, not everyone can do it right) then the graduation rates for STEM would be 100%.

Like I said, when anyone was falling behind all they would have to do is study more, right? Everyone can study more... but some people choose not to. Some people fail.

And as my statistics have already shown, MOST people fail. At most 17% of STEM majors actually graduate and this is in a time period of 6 years, not 4 years.

Call it what you want, the point is that most people (literally) can't do it. He calls it studying, I call it natural talent. Some people can't into studying. Some people don't have the talent to study.

These are equivalent statements because they lead to the same conclusion, that most people cannot do STEM.

Lets also not forget that at most 50% of STEM graduates end up working in STEM.

Should the other 50% just study more? That would do nothing for them. They lacked talent all along.

Can you draw goods 2d models? If you can you can work for free for indie game dev while studying engeeniring and when you are done you will have enough experience to be hired as a artists in a proper team. Plus you will have a unrelated degree. Why are you even complaining?

>And I'm not drawing pony porn lol.

That's your problem though. Here is one of my favorite artists

patreon.com/doxydoo

I think she is a girl because she draws like a girl but who the fuck knows. The point is she gets paid more than 1000$ a week to draw pony porn and she is fucking good at it. I masturbate to her porn almost every week without fail because it is just so good.

Modern art is moving man and you better move with it.

You jerk off to pony porn and you're calling OP a sperg.

>tfw 5 years in math and I haven't graduated

Do you think you're dumb?

>You jerk off to pony porn and you're calling OP a sperg.

I find this funny because back when I was 16 I lost my virginity to my first girlfriend that I got specifically because we were both into my little pony and she liked to wear pink wigs to pretend she was Fluttershy while I flutterfucked her in the ass.

My little pony de-sperg'd me and turned me into a modern alpha male ready to take on the world.

Keep crying,fag.

Everything I've said in this thread is sensible and accurate information, as I've even supported it with evidence. Your attacks don't mean anything to me.

I know I am.
My life experience taught me that.

It's worth noting that asians graduate at a higher rate than whites. Only blacks, hispanics, and native americans have problems with graduating with a stem degree

insidehighered.com/news/2010/02/17/stem

>everyone knows that most institutions are racist
Sauce? As a hispanic, I was showered with scholarships, mentorship opportunities, and special events, including a private graduation ceremony for minority students, just because of my Mexican heritage. It's a typical midwest state school. If there's a way that universities discriminate against minorities, I'd love to hear about it. I could pass it along to my school's Dept. of Diversity and Inclusion, if nothing else.

You think you're this alpha male genius who is perfect in every way but we both know you're not. Just admit to your faults man, the only thing you are doing here is embarrassing yourself.

Believe in yourself man. We are all going to make it.

when did Veeky Forums turned into Veeky Forums?

>Sauce? What you described is racism. You got benefits specifically because of your race.

The thing is that because of discrimination minority populations tend to be poorer than whites and therefore get less opportunities and therefore they have a harder time graduation.

Whites decided to fight this with counter-discrimination. Instead of fixing the issue they just decided to fight racism with racism but now this racism benefits minorities.

Nowadays minorities live in a weird state where from some side they are negatively impacted by racism and from the other side they are positively helped by racism because whites are ashamed to admit that in general PoCs have less money because colonialism basically stole wealth from them.

We should ignore all of this racism and fix the economic problem. This would probably mean implementing a white tax for a couple of decades that directly took money from white families to give it to PoC families so that over time white families get slightly poorer and PoC families get slightly wealthier to the point that in average, everyone is as wealthy as each other and therefore have as much opportunity as each other.

After that affirmative action would be literally useless.

A tax for being white is racist

Slavery was pretty much a black tax.

Colonization was pretty much an indian tax.

Colonization of the south was pretty much a hispanic tax.

We need racism to destroy this racism. Affirmative action is racism but it is not racism that will fix the problem.

A white tax is also racist but it is the actual way to finish racism.

fuck off tard, go fishing for flames on /pol/. people that happened to be white colonized america, not white people. if you think you deserve something because something has happened to your ancestors you are an idiot

And because of people like you the extreme black KKK groups like Black Lives Matter will gain more momentum until they implement something much bigger than a simple white tax that could be as small as 1% of income that pretty much hurts no one and could be limited for only the top earners as to not hurt the poor.

Keep ignoring the problem so that your angry tears can be used as fuel for the BLM machine that will keep pushing for PoC accomodating policies.

This is like a
>Why are you hitting yourself? Why are you hitting yourself?

situation.

>mhu terrorists want something
>better give it to them.
i'm not american and i don't give a shit about your internal instabilities, but as far as i'm aware blm is damaging black people, not white ones. if they like hitting themselves it's their business

don't go to art school, but don't go to college if you're not into it. if you're really passionate about art, you're just gonna have to work extremely hard, probably move to a big city like LA, Chicago or NYC and make the right connections--places where rich patrons are looking for art. there's not a whole lot of jobs in art, but there's always jobs for people who are good at what they do. but please do not waste your parents money by going to school for something you don't enjoy and then dropping out. you and your parents will be miserable.

>>better give it to them.

Not really.

When the white KKK was a thing they attacked black people by saying they were all savage. How did black people fight this? They became mostly peaceful protesters. They took their problems and turned them into a full fledged and formal political movement and no one could listen to the KKK with a straight face anymore.

Now you have the black KKK doing the same thing, saying that white people hate blacks and want to ignore racism.

And what do you do? YOU IGNORE RACISM MORE.

That just fuels them more. What you should do is stop ignoring racism so that BLM has nothing on you.

About choosing a profission, yes, I do feel a little forced into stem.
I do have sort of a deep-rooted tendency towards art and fiction like the manchild I am, but I feel like I can only respect, value and better myself by going into either Biology or Programming.

I can't picture myself being truly happy either way. I don't want to waste my life, Veeky Forums, what do I do?

Will you give up self-respect? Or will you give up happiness?

My sister is an amazing artist and wanted to do art school back in the day. My dad pushed her away from the idea and she (somehow) found out that she loves computer science. She's a software engineer now, using her art ability in congruence with CS to design and create corporate web-pages. She gets paid a pretty penny too.

It's never all or nothing, man. Find ways to use your talents.

I always loved art, music, literature, all that. Still, I studied physics. I'm not especially unhappy, but I often do feel like it's not really the thing I wanted the most, more like the path of least resistance. Sometimes I really miss the productive aspect. But I don't really mind. It's all there, you just need to look for it.

It's the curse of being very multi talented, I'm good at most stuff, that's why I'm interested in most stuff. Retrospectively I think going into physics is actually the best decisions for people like me.

Kek
>we unify the nation by.... wait for it..... DIVIDING THE NATION
>THEY'LL NEVER SEE IT COMING

I can. But finding those sort of jobs is a hassle as well. Been doing commissions in draw threads, but that's just a little extra a week.
That's why I didn't go man. But I always wonder what if.. There's connections there and in the area I looked at. I'd be poor but that's okay because I don't plan on a family.
I was like you too, thought about doing that for a very long time my junior year of high school, but I want to dedicate myself to art. I just want to be the best I can be.

I'm so close to dropping everything and making my own sculpting business honestly

The civil war was literally dividing the nation into two camps, going all out on each other and then whoever won would decide what the morals of the entire nation would be.

It is not like this is the first timet his has happened. The civil war was literally unifying the nation by dividing it under fair rules.

>In my case, self-respect is my personal core motivation, thus combining those two into one and the same
I really can't win, can I?

>>In my case, self-respect is my personal core motivation, thus combining those two into one and the same
A core motivation and "happiness" are two different things. People have a lot of reasons for making like choices, but their own happiness is rarely one of those reasons.

C-can I say it? I'm gonna say it.

GAS THE KIKES
RACE WAR NOWWWWWW

In the same boat, but think you don't need to go to art school to produce good art but to get into a lot of jobs you need a STEM degree. I'm doing the same but with writing, Have it as a hobby.

Define "talent"

>learn how to program
>computer science

those are not the same. any moron can learn how to program, however well. computer science, at least at good unis, is more of an "information engineering" degree. of course, programming is mostly taught within the courses, but a) nobody gets good by just doing those courses and b) you certainly don't need them to learn programming.

also, programming has a big creative part. it's math plus creativity, if done right.
