Anything really. Got me started in lifting. I steal all his cues when training noobs. Rip = God (even if he did basically copy Starr's ideas).
Hudson Carter
I wouldn't say "steal" considering they were close friends and Starr even wrote stuff for Rip's website.
Kayden Morales
I feel really dumb now. I started lifting and stole rip's routine and only read a few excerpts, not the whole book. Now, a year into lifting, I'm actually starting to make real progress because I read the book. It's so much more than simple cues, he explains why everything works the way it does, and works every lift from the bottom up. Its so specific, that So long as to understand it, you really can't Fuck it up.
Wyatt Jenkins
Is that right? I've read the SS wikia and haven't touched the book. Probably need to get one that.
Ian Russell

He has a peculiar way of doing Barbell shrugs that that are amazing.
SS is a masterpiece, whether you like the routine or not, the book is wonderful. I like his grip cue for OHP
Elijah James
for a ROM guy, that's minimal ROM.
Luke Ortiz
>I like his grip cue for OHP paraphrase pls
Ethan Bell
Basically, any barbell movement I do, I do the way he teaches in SS 3rd edition. For me, it took a lot of reading and re-reading to get done some stuff right. There's a lot of information to process. Getting the form right has helped me progress much faster. The deadlift was the most helped by finally getting the setup right.
Anthony Gutierrez
>barbell in power rack at proper height >place hands open over barbell at adequate width >point thumbs down at toes >close grip >get under the bar >everything is aligned propely
Lucas Davis
I like those power racks he's got. They're look like a good middle ground between the way-bigger-than-they-need-to-be commercial racks and the comically narrow old York racks.

he's pretty fucking weak for claiming to be such a "strength" guru
also, lots of paid Rippetoe shills in here
Sebastian Green
Small wonder why he had shoulder surgery
Jose Bell
He's also in his fifties and completely broken down.
Was he as strong as some of his disciples like to claim? Fuck no, but he was a reasonably strong guy when he was a serious lifter.
Ian Gonzalez
But why is he broken down?
Aaron Gutierrez
Didn't his elbows get fucked up in a motorcycle accident or something and that's why he can't bench?
Carson Kelly
"An adult male weighs at least 200 pounds."
Jace Kelly
he's 60+, natty, and OHPs 200+, DLs 500, and squats 315 for 10. I respect the hell out of him.
You know he still deadlifts 227kg and squats 180+kg in his 60s, right?
Tyler Edwards
why does he deadlift with his feet so damn close together
Liam Thompson
Hey, like boardshorts told Raspie, Mark Rippitoes form is awful and his advice shouldn't be taken
Aaron Flores
How is his form awful and why shouldn't his advice be taken?
Ryan Gomez
nice meme
Jayden Young
Hey, who do you listen to, rippletits or a mind reading amateur equipped power lifter who throws homophobic slurs out and gives literally no advice other than "your form is bad"?
Grayson Morales
His squat is basically a good morning
Dylan Jones
His taut, sinewy muscles, ripened with age are covered by a thick layer of fat, especially around the the entire circumference of his waist. His form is simply adjusted to his own efficiencies developed over decades of lifting. And rotund.
Kayden Barnes
Nice meme

Joshua Wood
I just recently tried doing his bench and deadlift on the same day and it's helped out a lot. I've tried all sorts of workout plans and variations. I was actually surprised how much easier deadlift was after bench. I've kind of been following SS with my own accessories and minor tweaking and I've been seeing pretty good improvements.
Angel Wright
it's been proven that a big fat belly gives you leverage on deadlift, it's leverage oriented youtube.com/watch?v=4EEGp-66TuI (p.s. I hate this guy George Leeman)
Samuel Jones
So much this
Camden Cook
>And you cannot eat 7000/day and eat perfectly "clean". Unless you're rich from gay 4 pay." oh fuck me, did he actually say that? that's hilarious.
Austin Torres
What helped me the most in coordinating my squat and deadlift is to concentrate on keeping the weight on the line that goes through the middle of your feet and normal to the ground
Just focussing on that fixed so many of my form issues.
Levi Perry
Who told the who about what now?
Samuel Bailey
I never said this, dipshit

I can't squat with a narrow stance at all. Is that bad? I'm 6' 3" and have to spread my legs a little more than shoulder width
Joshua Garcia
>Hip drive in the OHP Is this in SS or other material? I'd like to read.
Aaron Williams
If it doesn't hurt it's probably okay
Luke Clark
it varies from person to person. as long as you can reach proper depth and don't cause yourself any pain, it's fine.
Henry Foster
What do I gotta do to become one of Papa Rip's test subject/boytoy?
Nicholas Turner
A bit wider than shoulder width is the standard stance for squatting for the vast majority of people.

I can't seem to get the hip drive right in ohp.
Like it works fine for all of my warmups, but when I get to my working set it all falls apart. Usually results in me having trouble pushing back hips and locking out.
I find that the breathe at the top and get a stretch reflex like in SSv2 works better for me.
Ian Hall
stfu and kill yourself
Lucas Campbell
Like said, just outside shoulder width is the most common. Start with your heels at shoulder width, and adjust from there.
can someone explain to me why "hip drive" doing OHP is good but slight (same amount of force) in knees instead is not allowed?
it doesnt make any sense
rippetits is retarded
Jonathan Murphy
Dropping the weight at the top, as in slightly below hip height is what rippler was referring to. KYS
Isaiah Kelly
because he's teaching the press the way it was done by oly lifters back when clean&press was a competitive lift. I don't think he has ever said that using the same amount of force using the knees is bad, so you're making shit up here. anyway, if you start using the knees you're basically push pressing and I don't see how you can guarantee that you won't use more force as the weight gets heavier. with the technique rip teaches you can't really apply a ton of force.
Ryder Kelly
Because if you bend your knees it's a push press
Owen Hall
>post the best lessons from starting strength or papa Rippetoe that helped you progress

today I tried the hip drive, pain in my spine, couldnt lift shit
no hip drive, can lift 1pl8

>Unless you're rich from gay 4 pay
Don't pretend that Rip knows about such degenerate things. He is pure.
Tyler Sanchez
I go with a wide stance and I'm up to 1.5x bodyweight lowbar squat without any trouble. Make sure your adducters (inner thigh) are nice and loose or you can pull a muscle.
You probably have LONG fucking legs, but for an average heighted person, the inside of your heels will be about 17 or 18" apart.
Liam Jenkins
Did you hinge backward from the hips while squeezing your glutes forward? You have to bend yourself without losing rigidity in your spine.
Dominic Smith
>You cannot get big and strong on 3000 kcal/day. Fuck, I've been trying to bulk on that
Easton Reyes

Sebastian Taylor

Cameron Evans
I always do this before my press. the little bit in where he says to put the bar parallel to your lifeline on your hand, that basically defines my habit of gripping for when I The Press
Adrian Hernandez
It's different. Push pressing is "cheating" because the quads drive the bar up. Hip drive isn't "cheating" because the hip extensors create a forward drive, not an upward one.
The point of doing the hip drive is that is simply fixes a lot of mistakes novices make. It fixes bar path, prevents people with no experience from hitting themselves in the chin with the bar, it tightens up your glutes, legs and core (a very common and very detrimental mistake people often make), as they're contracting for the hip thrust, it creates an arch so that your chest is in a better position to help drive the bar off at the start of it (when strict pressing, this arch is created by flexing the spine - with the hip thrust, your spine doesn't need to be as flexed as you're arching at the hips).
These are the main effects of it.
You're supposed to use your hips, not your spine kek Or maybe you just went too far with your hips, try not extending them so much.
Train at his gym, drink a lot of milk, don't cry about bodyfat and squat a fuckton
